About the role
Customs Trade Specialist
FedEx Logistics is seeking a dedicated Customs Trade Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for coordinating the documentation required by US Customs and Government Agencies for the entry of goods into the US on behalf of importers. You will play a crucial part in ensuring smooth international trade operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and manage documentation required by US Customs and Government Agencies for import entries.
- Provide impeccable customer service to clients throughout the import process.
- Process commodities requiring specialized handling, focusing on classification and duty preference to mitigate risks of liquidated damages and penalties.
- Obtain correct classification of goods for customs release using databases, SOPs, tariff books, internet, and customs resources.
- Perform data entry and process various import-related documentation for submission to US Customs, including handling PGA (Participating Government Agency) requirements.
- Maintain and update shipment documentation in compliance with all record-keeping regulations.
- Adhere strictly to all international importing and exporting regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with internal staff, departments, other FedEx operating companies, customers, and government agencies to ensure high service levels.
- Process agency brokerage shipments and handle remote filings as needed.
- Perform entry reconciliations and entry reviews as required.
- Ensure compliance with all government and organizational policies.
- Follow up on customs matters and proactively resolve any arising problems.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Paid training is provided.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 6 months of work experience required.
- Minimum of 12 months of industry experience preferred.
- Data entry/keyboard experience required.
- Working knowledge of MS Office and email applications (e.g., Outlook) using multiple screens and windows.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle a high volume of work and time-sensitive tasks.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Proficiency in using multiple systems and reference materials.
- Experience interacting with customers, carriers, brokers, government agencies, internal staff, and management.
- Knowledge of customs regulations and harmonized tariff schedules is preferred.
