Position Overview
The Freight Handler position at FedEx Freight is responsible for transporting freight across the dock area to and from trailers using both motorized and manual equipment.
Essential Functions
Key responsibilities include:
- Handling freight with equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- Verifying documentation matches freight description including type, weight and hazardous materials.
- Securing freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
- Recouping and repairing damaged freight when necessary.
- Completing required documentation and reports.
- Assisting customers with freight and documentation.
- Performing hostler duties if required.
- Adhering to applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Performing additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, being at least 18 years old, and previous experience in warehousing or freight handling. Basic math, communication skills, and physical ability to lift heavy items are necessary.
Working Conditions
This role is set in a dock environment with exposure to varied weather conditions, noise, exhaust, and dust. Hours may vary due to operational need.
