Role Summary: Vice President of Accounting

This high-impact role involves guiding Fairlawn’s accounting strategy and operations across residential, commercial, and student housing assets. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will ensure accuracy, compliance, scalability, and deliver timely financial insights for executive decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead monthly and annual close processes across multiple entities.
• Transition from cash to accrual-based, GAAP-compliant accounting.
• Establish accounting policies and scalable internal controls.
• Oversee consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and audit readiness.
• Manage cash strategies, lender reporting, tax compliance, and investor communications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on budgeting and performance analysis.
• Implement accounting systems and automation tools.
• Mentor and manage an expanding accounting team.

Requirements

• CPA required; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Minimum 7 years accounting experience with 3+ years in leadership
• Public accounting background, preferably Big 4 or regional
• Real estate industry experience and strong GAAP knowledge
• Proficient in accounting systems and Excel; familiarity with AppFolio, Yardi, MRI, FP&A software is a plus
• Excellent communication and analytical skills
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Flexibility for long hours and weekend work during peak seasons
