Overview / Objective

EXL Service is hiring a Business Data Analyst for our sports analytics team.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with data product owners, data engineers, and business stakeholders to gather and document detailed business and technical requirements for data products and reporting needs.
• Capture and maintain use cases, business rules, and logic for assigned data domains (e.g., fan data, marketing), ensuring alignment across teams and platforms.
• Lead the effort in gathering technical specifications to support the integration of various internal and external data sources, including understanding integration methods and patterns.
• Translate business needs into clear, structured documentation outlining data transformations, validations, standardizations, and reporting logic required to meet use cases.
• Work closely with internal stakeholders to define data fulfillment requirements, including outbound data feeds, KPI reports, and dashboards.
• Support UAT activities, including requirement traceability, test case validation, and smoke testing to ensure successful releases.
• Collaborate with data engineers, data architects, QA, and governance teams to validate pipelines and ensure high data quality, consistency, and compliance across ingestion and curation processes.
• Partner with Data Product Owners to help define and deliver the technical roadmap for the data platform, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of data assets.
• Experienced with Scrum and Agile Methodologies to coordinate global delivery teams, run scrum ceremonies, manage backlog items, and handle escalations.

Required Skill Sets

• Proven experience in gathering, documenting, and translating business and technical requirements into actionable data solutions.
• Hands-on experience working in AWS environments, specifically with Redshift and data lakehouse architectures.
• Strong SQL skills for data profiling, validation, and analysis.
• Experience working with tools like Confluence and JIRA for documentation and project tracking.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in computer science, statistics, or related discipline.
• 3+ years as a data/business analyst.
• Familiarity with dbt (data build tool) for modeling, testing, and documenting data transformations.
• Familiar with version control and relational databases.
• Self-starter with a curious mindset and the ability to make informed decisions independently.
