Job Description
About the European Union Delegation to the State of Israel
The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries, playing a significant role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid, and collaboration with global organizations. The EU is represented abroad by 145 diplomatic representations, known as EU Delegations, which function similarly to embassies.
The EU Delegation to the State of Israel, located in Tel Aviv, operates in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We serve as a fully-fledged diplomatic mission, representing the European Union in its dealings with the Israeli government on matters within the EU’s remit.
The Opportunity: Secretary, Political, Press and Information Section
We are offering a two-year contract, extendable up to seven years, for the post of Secretary (Local Agent Group 3) within our Political, Press and Information Section. This dynamic team currently comprises seven colleagues.
The successful candidate will provide daily support to the Head of the Political, Press and Information Section and offer general administrative assistance to the entire section. This includes crucial support for our EU coordination efforts with EU member states' embassies in Tel Aviv.
This vacancy is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and proactive candidate to integrate into a stimulating and interesting diplomatic environment. The ideal candidate will be well-organised, service-oriented, flexible, and capable of working effectively under tight deadlines and pressure. Additionally, the position requires a resourceful team player who consistently demonstrates confidentiality and professionalism. Strong drafting and communication skills in both English and Hebrew are essential. The candidate will be expected to quickly achieve competency with European Union procedures and IT tools.
Main Tasks and Duties
- Undertake daily media monitoring and prepare comprehensive press reviews, in close cooperation with the section's press manager.
- Execute procurement tasks in adherence to EEAS procedures and guidelines, specifically related to the delegation's press and information budget, including budget planning, execution, and expenditure reporting to HQ.
- Assist in the section's overall public diplomacy efforts, which involves managing correspondence with the general public and uploading content to the delegation's website.
- Support the section in coordinating the delegation's liaison with EU embassies in Tel Aviv, including organising meetings, distributing reports, and maintaining updated contacts and distribution lists.
- Perform various other administrative tasks for the section, such as arranging meetings and assisting with the organisation of missions abroad and facilitating missions from HQ to Israel.
- Undertake ad hoc short translations between English and Hebrew as required, although an outside translator handles most extensive translation work.
Compensation and Benefits
The base salary will be determined by relevant and verified employment experience, typically starting from ILS 12,514. A competitive benefits package is offered, subject to certain conditions, including personal leave days, public holidays, health insurance, and a retirement savings plan.
The expected start date for this position is 15 April 2026.
Minimum Requirements / Eligibility Criteria
- Completed second level education.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience performing the above-mentioned tasks.
- Fluent in Hebrew and English (speaking, reading, writing).
- Israeli citizenship or a valid work permit for Israel.
Assets / Selection Criteria
Candidates with the following will be highly regarded:
- Knowledge of Arabic language and/or other European Union languages.
- Strong computer literacy, with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Relevant experience related to public policy and/or media or communication.
- Prior work experience with Web Content Management (WCM) systems.
- Capacity to work effectively as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment, ability to work under pressure when required, and good oral and written communication skills.
