About Etpa
Etpa is a designated European Power Exchange for the short-term electricity market. Our state-of-the-art platform is a key enabler for the transition to renewable energy. We provide access to spot-trading to many new players in the market, including energy traders, battery optimizers, asset owners and utilities.
We outperform our competitors in terms of speed, cash management, scalability, cost, and IT connectivity. Our current portfolio of exchanges includes Intraday (XBID), Congestion management (GOPACS), and day after trading (Ex-Post). We are heavily investing in the expansion of our geography and product suite throughout Europe.
About the Junior QA Engineer role
We are looking for a Junior QA Engineer to join our fast-growing tech team in Malta. In this role, you will help safeguard the quality and reliability of our trading platform in a highly regulated and performance-driven environment. You will work closely with developers, product owners, and operations to ensure our systems meet the highest standards in the industry. As part of an agile team, you will test complex software products, investigate issues in depth, and contribute to building a robust and scalable QA process. This is a great opportunity to grow into a skilled QA professional while learning about energy trading and modern microservice architectures.
Your responsibilities include:
- Design, execute, and maintain test cases for complex software systems in a microservices-based environment.
- Perform functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing of new features and system improvements.
- Investigate bugs thoroughly, reproduce issues, and document findings in a clear and structured manner.
- Collaborate closely with developers and product teams to clarify requirements and ensure test coverage.
- Contribute to improving and structuring our QA processes and testing frameworks.
- Support the transition towards increased test automation and CI/CD integration.
- Ensure our platform meets high performance, reliability, and quality standards expected in energy trading.
About you
We are looking for candidates with:
- A BSc degree in a technical field (e.g. Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar).
- 1+ year of experience testing complex software products.
- Strong attention to detail and a thorough, investigative mindset.
- Passion for product quality and quality assurance.
- Familiarity with Agile ways of working.
- Fluency in English and strong communication skills.
- Creative self-starter who can design and execute structured test approaches independently.
- Ability to report QA findings clearly and systematically.
- Willingness and motivation to learn automated testing and relevant programming languages.
- Ability to commute to Etpa’s office in Malta.
- A valid work permit for the European Union.
Nice-to-have
- Knowledge of test automation concepts and commonly used tools (e.g. Cucumber, Jest or similar).
- Experience writing automated test scripts integrated in CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with Java or JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Experience with end-to-end testing in microservice environments.
- Basic understanding of (energy) trading or financial systems is a plus.
