General Objectives

The Design Consultant works closely with the customer in the design center/studio, remotely, online and in the customer’s home to create individualized design solutions to sell Ethan Allen products and services. The consultant will create space planning, fabric coordination, product selection and overall project design that meets customer needs and sales goals in a flexible, relationship-based selling environment.

Performance is measured through teamwork, customer service, communication skills, decision making, project development, presentation, and technical skills, as well as benchmarks including Minimum Monthly Sales, Home Calls, Accent Sales, Softgood Sales, Be-Backs, PI, Close Ratio and participation in the Ethan Allen Trade Program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create design solutions aligning with customer preferences and budgets.
  • Sell Ethan Allen’s products and services, representing the brand professionally.
  • Conduct in-person design center consultations and home calls.
  • Utilize social media and grassroots marketing to grow business.
  • Stay updated on design and color trends to produce fashionable solutions.
  • Coordinate with team members to ensure excellent customer service pre and post sale.
  • Leverage corporate systems and technology (3-D Room Planner, CRM, Live Chat) for effective project design and presentations.
  • Enter orders using the retail point of sale system and maintain an orderly design center projection.
  • Collaborate on business and grassroots marketing plans to extend market reach.
  • Participate in corporate marketing and training programs and educate customers on finance options.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a design-related field with at least one year interior design experience.
  • Broad interior design knowledge combined with effective sales techniques.
  • Experience using online design tools and digital floor planning technology, 3D applications beneficial.
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms and interactive technologies (AR, VR) for design visualization.
  • Strong communication, listening skills and a valid driver’s license or alternative transportation during business hours.

Compensation

This is a full-time position where compensation is incentive based. Design Consultants receive a monthly draw against commissions earned. The first three months are a training period with a non-recoverable draw.
