About The Role: School Crossing Patrol Officer
Join Essex County Council’s School Crossing Patrol Team as a School Crossing Patrol Officer at Kingston Primary School – Kenneth Road entrance, Thundersley. This permanent, term-time position is based in Benfleet, offering approximately 6 hours and 15 minutes of work per week at £13.00 per hour, including holiday pay. You will be an operational field-based worker, crucial for ensuring the safety of children and pedestrians during school crossings.
We are seeking a punctual, reliable, and approachable individual who enjoys engaging with the public. Your availability will be required during the 39 weeks of the academic year, typically between 08:00 - 09:00 in the morning and 14:45 - 15:45 in the afternoon, subject to site-specific requirements. All necessary uniform, equipment, and comprehensive training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety of all pedestrians, especially children, crossing the road to and from Kingston Primary School.
- Consider the needs of people with disabilities, particularly those with mobility impairments, when facilitating crossings.
- Maintain consistent communication with the schools attended by children utilizing the crossing point.
- Regularly evaluate risks at the crossing site, identify potential issues, and report problems or defects to the supervisor.
- Assist in drafting reports for accidents, failure to stop incidents, and any other occurrences at the crossing site.
- Ensure that all provided uniform and equipment are kept in excellent condition, requesting replacements as needed.
- Give clear and precise signals to drivers to stop traffic, ensuring vehicles remain stationary until the crossing point is completely clear of pedestrians.
