About the Role: Head of Business Development

As the Head of Business Development, you will lead a dynamic team of eight Business Development Managers. You will be an integral part of the Leadership Team, responsible for acquiring new projects and continuously developing our propositions and commercial processes. This role requires extensive experience working with commercial teams and serving large clients, primarily within the public sector. You will bring focus, analytical ability, and commercial energy to the team, guiding colleagues through complex commercial processes and actively promoting innovation. As a sparring partner, you will be deeply involved in the development of your team members, supporting them in achieving concrete results.

You will also serve as the right-hand to the Commercial Director, maintaining a visible presence in the market, nurturing relationships with potential clients, and proactively identifying new opportunities. Together, you will build the commercial strategy for Klimaatroute and establish clear acquisition plans for the various propositions your team manages.

You will collaborate closely with the Tender Team and Business Development Managers on proposals and tenders, ensuring the delivery of strong, distinctive offers that align with market demand and Klimaatroute's services. You will monitor quality, feasibility, and profitability, ensuring optimal utilization of knowledge and experience within the team.

With your insights and experience, you will continuously improve our commercial processes, building a commercial team that enjoys working together, is results-oriented, and contributes visibly to Klimaatroute's growth and societal impact. You thrive on collective success and continuous improvement, combining coaching leadership with substantive involvement. You enjoy being 'out and about' in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Coaching: Coaching and challenging Business Development Managers, conducting bi-weekly conversations, and monitoring goals, growth, and development.
  • Proposition Development: Collaborating with the team to develop and refine propositions for public and private clients, with an eye for content, feasibility, and impact.
  • Tenders & Bids: Working with the Tender Team on strong, winning tenders and proposals, contributing ideas on positioning, business cases, approach, and content.
  • Commercial Process Improvement: Enhancing the commercial process from 'lead to contract', ensuring opportunities are clearly followed up and teams collaborate effectively.
  • Standardization & Quality: Establishing clear working methods, business case formats, and professional templates to maintain quality and pace.
  • Making Impact: Contributing to projects that genuinely help homeowners, tenants, and businesses become more sustainable.

Who You Are

  • You possess HBO/WO (higher professional education/university) work and thinking level and a minimum of 3 years of experience in managing and developing commercial teams, with a coaching leadership style.
  • You are commercially driven and inspire others. You love to win, always collaboratively and with an eye for what is feasible and appropriate.
  • You can connect substantive expertise with commercial opportunities and translate these into scalable propositions based on sharp insights into client and customer needs.
  • You have experience, knowledge, and a network within the energy transition (especially built environment, grid congestion, heat transition).
  • You have demonstrable experience with tenders and complex proposal processes, preferably for public clients and/or financial service providers, actively contributing to the success of an organization constantly in motion.
  • You have a keen eye for business cases and are proficient with financial models in Excel.
  • You seek a role where you connect sustainability with commercial success and continuously grow with the team.

  • A salary between €5,000 and €6,500 per month, depending on your experience.
