Job Description
Junior ML/Data Operations Engineer at Epiq Energy
Epiq Energy is an early-stage startup building algorithmic trading systems for European electricity markets. Our revenue comes entirely from quantitative trading strategies we develop in-house, operating across Danish and European bidding zones. We work with day-ahead and intraday markets, combining price forecasting with automated execution. We're a small team where your work has direct, measurable impact. If you want to see your code running in production and affecting real trading decisions, this is the place.
The Role
We're looking for someone to strengthen our data infrastructure and ML operations. This isn't a pure modeling role—you'll spend most of your time building and maintaining the pipelines that feed our trading systems, ensuring data quality, and helping us operationalize our quantitative models. We value people who ship iteratively. PoCs and incremental improvements beat perfect solutions that never launch.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain data pipelines for electricity market data (prices, volumes, forecasts)
- Ensure data integrity and consistency across our quantitative models
- Maintain and improve technical documentation for data architecture
- Contribute to tool selection and platform development for quantitative analysis
Model Development & Testing:
- Test, validate, and improve forecasting and trading models
- Identify risks in model assumptions and methodologies
- Support the full model lifecycle—from development through deployment and monitoring
Backtesting & Analysis:
- Build and maintain trading backtest engines to evaluate strategy performance
- Conduct data analysis to support trading decisions and model improvements
- Analyze historical market data to identify patterns and validate hypotheses
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Solid Python and SQL skills
- Detail orientation—you care about getting data transformations right
- Pragmatic mindset—you'd rather ship something good today than something perfect never
- Comfortable working hands-on with data plumbing, not just modeling
- Residence and work permit for Denmark
Nice to have:
- Experience with Azure, Databricks, or similar cloud platforms
- Familiarity with Git and version control workflows
- Background in economics, finance, or trading—understanding why the data matters
- Exposure to ML-ops practices or data governance
Why Join Us
- Direct impact—your work runs in production and affects real trading outcomes
- Learn fast—small team, broad exposure to the full stack
- Energy transition—work on infrastructure that supports renewable-heavy electricity markets
- Copenhagen-based with a pragmatic, low-bureaucracy culture
- Enjoy team lunches and collaborative social or sport activities
