Job Summary
The HVAC/Refrigeration Technician at Engineered Structures, Inc. (ESI) is responsible for ensuring strict adherence to all safety programs, policies, and procedures. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive planning, organizing, and management of the installation, maintenance, and repair of various refrigeration systems, guaranteeing their efficient and safe operation. The technician meticulously inspects ongoing work to confirm that workmanship meets required specifications and that construction schedules are diligently followed. Collaboration with other team members on general construction and repair tasks is also a key aspect of this dynamic position.

Responsibilities
- Assist the team in the installation of new refrigeration equipment and retrofitting existing systems.
- Support the team as needed while actively acquiring knowledge of the trade.
- Help maintain and repair refrigeration equipment under the supervision of experienced technicians.
- Assist in the upkeep and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Ensure the work site is always clean and organized.
- Comply with all Federal and State OSHA Standards, as well as ESI’s Safety Program.
- Work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and participate in on-call rotations as required.
- Assist with other ESI self-perform scopes outside of refrigeration when necessary.
- Help move equipment using appropriate tools and assist in setting it up.
- Learn to install equipment and materials related to refrigeration.
- Assist in the installation, repair, testing, and diagnosis of refrigeration equipment under supervision.
- Follow plans, specifications, and installation manuals to complete tasks.
- Support refrigeration line pressure testing and adhere to all safety protocols and procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- EPA 608 Type 3 Refrigeration License preferred.
- HVAC-R Journeymen License preferred.
- Proven experience (1+ years) as a Refrigeration Technician or similar role.
- OSHA 30 preferred.
- Basic understanding of refrigeration systems, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Ability to self-motivate and work effectively within a team.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with the capacity to make informed decisions under pressure.
- Solid understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to refrigeration systems.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with team members, vendors, and management.
- Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software applications.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Effective and professional communication and interaction with supervisors, employees, clients, and others, whether individually or in a team environment, are vital aspects of the role.
- Adherence to safety protocols and the ability to follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment guidelines, and company policies, are vital to performing work safely and effectively.
Working Conditions
The HVAC/Refrigeration Technician will operate in a fast-paced, often busy, and noisy environment. This role frequently involves outdoor work with exposure to various weather conditions, working at heights, and in precarious places. Technicians will work near fumes and airborne particles, handle toxic/caustic chemicals, and operate in close proximity to live electrical circuits, necessitating strict adherence to safety.
Physical Demands
This position requires frequent travel by motor vehicle. Extended work hours on construction sites demand physical stamina to safely navigate premises. The ability to lift and/or move materials and tools, with a maximum weight limit of 50 lbs, is essential, though not required daily.
Travel Requirements
- Will be required to work on project sites both within and outside of the Boise metropolitan area, and/or in other states.
- This position may require frequent travel by motor vehicle or airplane.
- This position requires the employee to reliably travel utilizing their personal vehicle.
