Position Overview
The Business Development Director leads proactive outreach to utilities, government agencies and potential clients to expand EIP’s brand and generate new business opportunities. This role involves cultivating new relationships, qualifying opportunities, and designing tailored programs aligned with client needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Prospecting and identifying prospective clients through market research.
- Conducting calls, meetings, and presentations with utilities and agencies.
- Developing custom program designs in energy efficiency and electrification.
- Maintaining opportunity pipeline records using CRM systems like HubSpot.
- Supporting proposals, presentations and representing EIP at industry events.
Objectives
- Increase brand visibility and client engagement nationwide.
- Build strong relationships with decision-makers at utilities and state agencies.
- Qualify opportunities and shape client-focused program designs.
- Create and manage a robust pipeline of new business opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, environmental science, public policy or related field.
- 7+ years of business development, program management or sales experience in clean energy or utility sectors.
- Established relationships with utilities, regulators, or state energy offices.
- Proven track record of generating revenue and securing new client relationships.
- Strong understanding of energy efficiency, electrification, and decarbonization program design.
Preferred Qualifications & Tools
- Master’s degree in business administration, public policy, or related field.
- Familiarity with CRM systems (HubSpot preferred) and proposal management tools.
- Experience in federal contracting, utility program administration, or clean energy consulting is a plus.
