Job Description

The Role of an Endeavour Volunteer Board Member

Endeavour Consulting for Non-Profits is actively seeking three new Board members to serve a three-year renewable term starting in May 2026. This pivotal role involves contributing expert guidance to shape strategic direction, foster growth, and enhance the organization's impact.

As an Endeavour Volunteer Board Member, you will collaborate closely with the Board Chair and fellow members to provide crucial strategic oversight, strengthen governance, and ensure Endeavour achieves its mission. You will also engage with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to support key decisions, uphold accountability, and define strategic direction. Join a dynamic team committed to driving innovation and positive change within the nonprofit sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold and champion Endeavour’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Attend quarterly Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting in Toronto.
  • Advise on strategic direction, organizational goals, and key policies.
  • Provide board-level oversight of financial, governance, and risk matters.
  • Serve on at least one Board committee (e.g., Finance, Governance, Strategy).
  • Act as an ambassador for Endeavour and support fundraising initiatives.
  • Offer guidance or mentorship to the Senior Leadership Team when appropriate.
  • Stay informed about trends and best practices in nonprofit governance and the sector.
  • Leverage your professional network to advance Endeavour’s mission and impact.

Time Commitment

Board members are expected to dedicate approximately 5 hours per month. This includes four regular Board of Directors meetings annually, typically held on weekday evenings for 1.5–2 hours.

Qualifications

Endeavour’s Board comprises diverse professionals from the nonprofit, private, and public sectors. We are specifically seeking a Board member with strong Canadian financial credentials to potentially assume the role of Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee.

The Ideal Candidate will demonstrate:

  • Excitement and motivation to make a difference for the nonprofit community.
  • Understanding of Board governance concepts and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Financial literacy, including the ability to interpret financial statements and budgets.
  • Experience with financial oversight, risk management, and internal control.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Canadian professional accounting designation (CPA preferred).
  • Experience in financial management, audit, accounting, or financial leadership within a Canadian organization.
  • Previous experience as Treasurer, Finance Chair, or a similar Board of Directors role.
  • Familiarity with Canadian charity and nonprofit financial regulations, CRA reporting, and compliance.
  • Experience working with external auditors and overseeing annual audit processes.
  • Ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial Board members.

We are also looking for Board members with expertise in charity and not-for-profit organizations, particularly in Legal, Compliance, and Governance.

Benefits of Volunteering

While this is an unpaid volunteer role, it offers significant rewards:

  • Shape strategy and impact: Directly influence Endeavour’s direction and drive meaningful change across the nonprofit sector.
  • Collaborate with leaders: Engage with a diverse, high-caliber network of nonprofit, private, and public sector professionals.
  • Guide governance and oversight: Apply expertise in board governance, financial management, and strategic planning.
  • Advance the mission: Contribute skills to initiatives that strengthen communities and non-profit organizations.

Please note: Endeavour is a 100% volunteer-driven organization, meaning all roles are unpaid. This is an exceptional opportunity to make a meaningful impact, gain valuable experience, and expand your professional network.
