Job Responsibilities for the Food & Nutrition Associate

As a Food & Nutrition Associate at Emory Healthcare, you will play a crucial role in providing excellent food service to patients and customers. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing, portioning, and serving menu items for general and modified patient diets, as well as for retail food service or catering.
  • Assembling and serving meals in accordance with selected menus, presentation, and portion control guidelines.
  • Receiving and properly storing deliveries to maintain inventory and freshness.
  • Operating a cash register to process and verify payments for goods or services, if required.
  • Operating selected production and other food service equipment efficiently and safely.
  • Adhering to all safety and infection control policies and procedures, including proper and frequent hand washing and using required protective devices to prevent the transmission of foodborne illnesses.
  • Requisitioning and procuring ingredients from storage areas based on recipe or menu requirements.
  • Taking and accurately recording temperatures of food and food service equipment, documenting this information, and strictly following FIFO (First-In, First-Out) protocols.
  • Reporting any issues in food quality or service, as well as addressing customer and patient concerns; communicating and sharing recommendations for improvements to enhance the overall experience.
  • Performing other related duties as required to support the food and nutrition team.

Minimal Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, and follow instructions accurately.
  • One (1) year of food service experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in customer service, critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to make sound judgments while quickly processing information in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform basic computer tasks, including logging on and off a workstation, checking email, and completing annual online employee commitment modules.
