Job Description

About Flat Fee Shipping

Flat Fee Shipping is a fast-growing third-party logistics (3PL) company specializing in end-to-end ecommerce fulfillment services for direct-to-consumer brands. Our mission is built on Midwest values, focusing on understanding customer needs to create custom, budget-friendly solutions. Clients trust us for swift, accurate product storage, picking, packing, and shipping, along with full operational visibility.

To support this rapid growth, we are developing an in-house, enterprise-grade technology platform. This unified system will include an Order Management System (OMS), Warehouse Management System (WMS), Inventory Management System (IMS), and a client-facing portal, providing our ecommerce brand partners with comprehensive fulfillment lifecycle management. Think of it as our bespoke platform, similar to those offered by Stord, ShipHero, and ShipBob, but meticulously tailored to our operational methodology.

The Role: Technical Product Lead

We are seeking a Technical Product Lead to act as the crucial link between our fulfillment operations team, account managers, and our four dedicated development teams. This is a high-impact leadership position, distinct from a CTO role, focused on translating complex logistics and ecommerce workflows into precise, actionable technical specifications, project scopes, and visual mockups for our engineering teams.

As the connective tissue between business and engineering, you will define terminology, meticulously document workflows, and create interactive mockups using advanced AI-powered tools. A key aspect of this role involves leading and managing developers. You must possess exceptional people skills, adept at navigating team dynamics, listening to constraints, and collaboratively finding solutions to drive projects forward. Your leadership will inspire speed and maintain morale through competence and fairness.

This is a fully remote, full-time position. Candidates are expected to work during US Eastern or Central time zone hours to ensure seamless collaboration with our operations and leadership team. Compensation ranges from $3,000 to $5,000 per month, commensurate with experience and capability, supplemented by performance bonuses tied to project milestones.

What You Will Do

  • Orchestrate 4 development teams (10 developers total) working across OMS, WMS, IMS, and the client portal, ensuring alignment, clear handoffs, and accountability.
  • Translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications by working closely with fulfillment and account management teams to document functions and processes.
  • Define and standardize terminology to establish a shared language across operations, account management, and engineering for system components and features.
  • Build mockups and visual prototypes using AI-powered tools such as Bolt, Replit, Lovable, and Claude Code to illustrate feature design and functionality before development.
  • Scope and manage projects by compiling detailed project briefs, defining milestones, deliverables, acceptance criteria, and timelines for each feature and release.
  • Drive feature development end-to-end, from initial concept and prioritization with stakeholders through specification, development, QA, and deployment.
  • Hold teams accountable through regular check-ins, progress tracking, blocker removal, and ensuring timely delivery of components to specification.
  • Communicate across all levels, serving as the primary liaison between non-technical stakeholders (fulfillment operations, account managers, leadership) and technical teams.

Who You Are

We prioritize proven skills and a track record over titles or years of experience. If you have built and shipped impactful solutions, we encourage you to apply.

  • Semi-technical and highly capable: You can read code, understand APIs and database schemas, and are familiar with Python, SQL, AWS, and modern development workflows.
  • AI-tool proficient: Highly skilled with AI-powered development and design tools like Bolt, Replit, Lovable, and Claude Code for rapid prototyping and idea communication.
  • Ecommerce and software background: Direct experience within the ecommerce ecosystem, understanding order lifecycle, inventory management, and multi-channel selling.
  • 3PL or fulfillment experience: A significant advantage if you have worked within a third-party logistics, fulfillment center, or logistics technology company.
  • Exceptional communicator: Ability to simplify complex technical systems for non-technical audiences and translate vague business requests into precise technical requirements.
  • Organized and accountable: Thrives in fast-paced environments, manages multiple workstreams, and maintains high delivery standards.
  • Fluent in English: Non-negotiable requirement for daily communication with operations, account managers, developers, and leadership.
  • Self-driven and relentless: Takes ownership, works with urgency, identifies gaps, and proactively fills them.

Our Technology Environment

  • Languages & Frameworks: Python, SQL
  • Infrastructure: AWS, Dagster (orchestration)
  • Version Control: GitHub
  • AI & Prototyping Tools: Bolt, Replit, Lovable, Claude Code
  • Systems Being Built: Order Management System (OMS), Warehouse Management System (WMS), Inventory Management System (IMS), Client-Facing Portal

  • Ground-floor opportunity: Build enterprise-grade software from scratch at a rapidly growing company.
  • High-impact role: Directly shape the fulfillment experience for hundreds of ecommerce brands.
  • Performance-based bonuses: Financial rewards tied to project milestones and team deliverables.
