Essential Functions

The Casualty Claims Adjuster I role involves reviewing claim notifications, contracts, state statutes, and policies to verify coverage and deductibles. Responsibilities include:

  • Initiating timely contact with insureds and claimants to explain the claim process.
  • Obtaining statements from insureds, claimants, and witnesses and documenting summaries.
  • Requesting and analyzing investigative reports, claim forms, and documents.
  • Documenting claim activities, reserve analyses and preparing Medicare module reports.
  • Setting appropriate reserves, investigating recovery opportunities, and managing evidence.
  • Reviewing bills, invoices and auditing independent adjuster estimates.
  • Drafting reservation of rights, coverage denial letters and settlement documents.
  • Communicating with insureds, claimants and attorneys to resolve claims timely.

Education & Experience

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience is required. A minimum of one year of casualty claims adjusting or related experience is needed, with relevant insurance designations preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of insurance contracts, medical terminology and state statutes, be proficient with computer claims systems, and be capable of obtaining applicable state licenses. Excellent investigative, problem-solving, customer service, and communication skills are essential. Occasional travel is required, along with maintaining a valid driver’s license.
