About the Role: Presales Technical Consultant at Elsevier
Elsevier is seeking a motivated Presales Technical Consultant to join its Advanced Data Solutions team. In this role, you will be instrumental in driving revenue growth by partnering with Sales to articulate the value of Elsevier’s data and software solutions, particularly Datasets and SciBite. You will serve as the technical authority throughout the sales cycle, understanding customer needs, demonstrating solution capabilities, and translating complex technical features into tangible business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Presales Solution Leadership: Develop and maintain deep expertise in Elsevier’s offerings, including datasets, semantic technology, ontology management, and analytics.
- Technical Discovery: Lead in-depth technical discovery sessions to comprehend customer objectives, analytical workflows, and data landscapes. Translate business and scientific challenges into data-driven use cases and compelling value narratives.
- Solution Design & Demonstration: Design and deliver customized solution demonstrations that highlight how Elsevier's data and software empower insights, analytics, AI/ML readiness, and knowledge graph construction.
- Proposal & PoC Support: Scope and prepare solution proposals, support proof of concepts (PoCs), technical evaluations, and pilots to validate solution fit and value. Clearly articulate technical trade-offs, assumptions, and dependencies.
- Trusted Technical Advisor: Act as a trusted advisor throughout the sales cycle, supporting account strategy, solution positioning, and competitive differentiation.
- Cross-functional Alignment: Collaborate with Product, Post-Sales, and Professional Services teams to ensure solution feasibility and smooth customer implementation.
- Market Insights: Gather customer feedback and market insights to inform product positioning, roadmap priorities, and go-to-market strategies in partnership with Product and Marketing.
Requirements:
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of data-driven analytics workflows (ingestion, enrichment, integration, insight generation). Working knowledge of Generative AI, NLP, ontologies, taxonomies, and knowledge graphs. Deep understanding of cloud and technical ecosystems (e.g., AWS, REST APIs, SFTP, HTTP, OAuth, Docker, Python).
- Customer-Facing Skills: Proven experience delivering technical demonstrations and presentations to diverse stakeholders. Excellent communication, storytelling, and stakeholder-management skills. Confidence in leading complex technical discussions and navigating challenging customer conversations.
- Domain Experience: Master’s or PhD in a science or technology field, or equivalent practical experience. Experience in pharmaceutical, life sciences, engineering, or other data-intensive enterprise environments. Understanding of data and software in research, analytics, and decision-making is highly desirable.
- Travel: Willingness to travel to customer sites and industry events as required.
