About The Role
Elmwood Spa is hiring a Maintenance Assistant to support hands-on repairs and preventive maintenance across four downtown outlets, primarily located in the same building, with occasional support at elmspa.
This role begins as a hands-on Maintenance Assistant, focused on building a strong foundation across all maintenance functions. Demonstrated proficiency, consistency, and ownership of the role are essential before any consideration for increased responsibilities. As part of this, the ability to fully perform and understand all aspects of the role is critical, as leading a team requires a strong hands-on understanding of the work. Any future progression will depend on performance and business requirements.
A driver’s license and a clean driver abstract are required at hire.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general cleaning, repair, and maintenance of the building’s interior and exterior.
- Complete patching, painting, and ceiling tile repairs.
- Carry out flooring repairs (carpet tiles, ceramic tiles, etc.)
- Repair millwork (lockers, paneling, partitions, desks)
- Troubleshoot spa equipment.
- Perform routine pool maintenance, including water testing, chemical balancing, and equipment checks.
- Perform minor plumbing (fixture and cartridge replacement, water fountains, drain clearing)
- Repair or replace doors, locks and bulbs.
- Have a general understanding of WHMIS, Fire and Building Code regulations and other health and safety rules and regulations.
- Ensure that the preventative maintenance program is followed and properly documented through good workmanship, aesthetic considerations, replacement or repair, always assuring everything is in top condition and working effectively and efficiently.
- Respond in a timely manner to Landport (work order program) requests and take corrective action. Plan and ensure each are completed according to urgency and efficacy.
- Respond to e-mails in a timely manner during shift and off hours.
- Maintain a stock of cleaning supplies and advise the reporting manager when supplies are low.
- Answer Phone and Respond to after-hours calls. Attend site and resolve issues as required, provide the reporting manager with update once completed.
What You Bring
- A minimum of 3 years’ maintenance experience.
- A minimum 1 year of supervisory experience.
- Valid driver’s license to respond to after hours and/or to retrieve materials or tools as necessary.
- Must have general knowledge of mechanical workings electrical panels, water supply, pump rooms, heating, air systems, hot water heating, refrigeration etc.
- Full-time (40 hours/week) with an on-call rotation for urgent after-hours issues.
- Able to complete a background check.
- Must carry a cell phone always to answer emergency calls and respond to the reporting manager for general inquiries.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification is an asset.
- Hands-on, safety-minded, and quality-focused; comfortable working in a busy hospitality environment where appearance and guest experience matter.
- Ability to work on a flexible schedule: days, evenings and weekends.
- Trade/facilities training is a plus.
- Familiarity with an HRIS (Human Resources Information System) is an asset.
- Ability to Work within a building where the oils are infused into the air (to stimulate senses pertaining to a delightful spa experience).
