About the role
Software Engineer Full Stack
We are seeking a skilled Full-Stack Software Engineer to develop a production web application from the ground up. This role involves building a robust system with Python APIs on the backend, a React and TypeScript Single Page Application (SPA) on the front-end, and managing the data layer. This is a six-month contract-to-hire position for an internal product initiative, offering direct feedback from close users and a collaborative, craft-focused environment.
About the Role
As a Software Engineer, you will be part of a digital product studio that emphasizes software as a craft, delivering production-grade systems. The internal nature of this project allows for tight feedback loops, immediate user interaction, and direct collaboration without excessive client process layers. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys both backend challenges, such as debugging slow queries, and frontend tasks, like refining component interactions.
What You'll Do
- Design and build backend APIs using Python with FastAPI or a similar async framework.
- Develop production-ready React + TypeScript features for a single-page application, covering data fetching to rendering.
- Work within an established component library and design system, ensuring robust CSS across different browsers and breakpoints.
- Manage the relational database layer, including schema design, migrations, and performance optimization.
- Create data visualizations to transform complex datasets into understandable views.
- Collaborate closely with designers and product managers on a small, senior team, influencing product direction.
- Maintain high standards of quality through comprehensive testing, code reviews, version control, and clear handoffs.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional full-stack web development experience.
- Strong Python backend experience, particularly in building APIs with FastAPI or equivalent async frameworks.
- Proven experience with React and TypeScript in an SPA context.
- Solid CSS fundamentals and experience with component libraries or design systems.
- Deep understanding of relational databases, including schema design, migrations, and query optimization.
- Experience with data visualization libraries is a significant advantage.
- Ability to work within US onshore hours and collaborate effectively with a fast-moving team.
