Job Description
Chief of Staff to CEO at Elgin
Elgin is seeking a highly strategic and execution-focused leader to join their team as Chief of Staff (CoS). This role serves as a critical strategic partner to the CEO, amplifying their impact, translating strategy into a disciplined operating cadence, and driving execution across the business. The CoS will lead cross-functional initiatives, support Executive Leadership Team (ELT) decision-making, and ensure the CEO's focus remains on the company's most material priorities. You will act as the "glue" between Elgin, its investors, sponsors, and across countries and functions, fostering effective and efficient collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy & Planning
- Lead preparation for board and investor interactions, providing clear updates on strategy execution and business performance with actionable recommendations.
- Manage the annual objective setting cycle and quarterly reviews, translating multi-year strategy into annual OKRs with measurable targets and owners.
- Maintain a rolling 12-18 month view of priorities and interdependencies across functional teams (development, construction, operations).
- Lead smaller-scale, time-bound CEO priorities and projects from scoping to benefits realization.
Executive Operations & Governance
- Organize and act as Secretary for Executive Leadership Team (ELT) meetings, including agendas, pre-reads, decision logs, and action follow-up.
- Coordinate various committee meetings, supporting the production and distribution of high-quality packs.
- Ensure actions are closed, risks are mitigated, and escalations are managed effectively.
- Facilitate cross-business connections, bringing the right people together and removing blockers.
Program & Portfolio Oversight
- Partner with ELT members and Heads Of to build and manage a unified view of delivery across external and internal projects.
- Support the ELT and Heads Of in identifying and resolving cross-functional risks, issues, dependencies, and decisions.
Communications & Stakeholder Management
- Write company-wide CEO communications, including town halls, leadership notes, and investor messages.
Data, Insights & Tooling
- Manage the CEO/ELT dashboard, ensuring a concise and trustworthy single source of truth for key company data.
- Lead ongoing efforts to ensure data accuracy across teams, timely inputs, consistent definitions, and that insights inform decision-making.
Candidate Profile:
Experience
- 4+ years in a delivery-focused consulting environment with strong project management and problem-solving experience.
- Relevant company operating experience, ideally in energy, infrastructure, or industrials.
- Demonstrated experience operating at pace with CEOs, senior leadership teams, and Boards.
- Exposure to multi-country governance is desirable.
- Familiarity with the renewable asset lifecycle, project finance concepts, PPAs, grid, and permitting is desirable.
Skills
- Execution: Proven ability in project and task management across multiple teams with a "get it done" discipline. Ability to take loosely defined problems and develop actionable solutions.
- Problem-solving: Structured thinking with the capacity to move between detailed analysis and the big picture.
- Systems Thinking: Ability to design repeatable, holistic processes and actions.
- Influence: Ability to earn trust quickly and manage through influence rather than authority. Strong stakeholder management across functions and organizations. Team player mentality.
- Communication: Crisp writing, executive storytelling, and high-quality document production.
- Financial & Analytical: Model-literate, comfortable interpreting budgets, dashboards, and KPIs.
- Tools: Familiarity with Office 365 (Excel/PowerPoint/Teams), project tooling (Planner/Project/Smartsheet), and BI tools (Power BI).
Behaviours
- High integrity, sound judgment, discretion with sensitive matters.
- Learning agility, inclusive and globally minded.
- Resilience and a bias to action.
- High sense of personal responsibility and low ego.
Qualifications
- Degree in business, engineering, finance, or similar; MBA/CFA is a plus.
- Project/program management credentials (PRINCE2/PMP/Agile) or similar practical experience is advantageous.
What Success Looks Like (First 9-12 Months):
- Optimized Operating Cadence: ELT and business demonstrate improved efficiency and effectiveness, with faster decision-making, quicker action closure, accurate meeting reports, and enhanced cross-business communication.
- Strategy into Outcomes: Company-level OKRs are decomposed and embedded into team and individual objectives, with the ELT having clear insight into progress.
- Positive Stakeholder Engagement: Consistently strong and more efficiently developed Board/Committee packs.
- Cross-functional Delivery: At least two cross-functional initiatives accelerated or delivered.
- Time Allocation: Increased CEO focus on the top three strategic goals.
Practicalities:
- Base Location: Dublin, Ireland. Hybrid working aligned with ELT and CEO cadence.
- Travel: 1-2 short trips per month expected to other Elgin sites.
- Eligibility: Right to work in the UK and Ireland.
- Compensation & Benefits: Competitive base salary, performance-related bonus, benefits, and long-term incentive eligibility.
