Software Engineer - AI Research Annotation
Join leading AI labs by applying your software engineering expertise to improve model reasoning. In this role, you will review real-world coding tasks and meticulously document problem-solving processes, contributing directly to the advancement of AI coding capabilities.
This is a global remote, hourly independent contractor position, offering flexible hours between 15-25 per week, with the potential to extend up to 40 hours.
About the Project
Support the development of advanced AI coding capabilities through structured dataset creation. You will work with authentic software engineering scenarios derived from open-source repositories to capture realistic developer thought processes, providing invaluable data for AI model training.
Detailed Responsibilities
- Review AI-generated code trajectories on SWE-bench style tasks.
- Reconstruct step-by-step reasoning, clearly explaining solution approaches.
- Annotate decision points, debugging strategies, and technical choices.
- Utilize full codebase context, including issues, tests, and pull requests, for accurate documentation.
- Ensure all annotations reflect authentic software engineering practices.
Technical Requirements
- 2+ years of hands-on software development experience.
- Strong proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar programming languages.
- Proven experience debugging complex codebases and effectively resolving issues.
- Familiarity with Git workflows, pull requests, and issue tracking systems.
- Ability to articulate complex technical reasoning clearly and concisely in writing.
Project Structure
- Duration: 1-2 months, with strong opportunities for extension.
- Start: Immediate onboarding available.
- Onboarding Process: Resume review followed by a 15-minute AI technical interview.
- Pace: Self-scheduled within the established weekly commitment minimum.
- Payment: Weekly payments processed via Stripe/Wise.
Ideal Background
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science/Software Engineering.
- Experience with open-source contributions or in-depth repository analysis.
- A solid understanding of software development lifecycles and testing methodologies.
- Comfort working with technical documentation and specifications.
