What is The Role: Senior Engineering Manager, Workplace AI Search

Elastic Agent Builder is a recently launched platform enabling developers to rapidly build and deploy powerful, production-ready AI agents directly on Elasticsearch. This platform leverages the world's most sophisticated search relevance, vector database, and retrieval-augmented generation capabilities. With intuitive context engineering primitives, natural language-to-ES|QL translation, customizable tools, secure data access, full observability through tracing and logging, and seamless integration via APIs or Kibana's conversational interface, you can ship reliable, data-grounded agents in minutes that interact with enterprise data, reason effectively, and take intelligent actions.

As an Engineering Manager for this high-impact product, you will shape the future of AI agent development at Elastic, tackling exciting challenges in agentic workflows, hybrid search, personalization, and scaling context-driven intelligence for the world's largest organizations. You will join a team at the forefront of solving real-world enterprise AI problems with innovative, open, and performant technology.

What You Will Be Doing

• Drive technical vision and execution for the Elastic Agent Builder platform, focusing on agentic workflows, hybrid search, personalization, and scaling context-driven intelligence.
• Lead and manage a dedicated team of engineers, conducting frequent 1-on-1s, delivering quarterly reviews, leading 'All Hands' discussions, and onboarding, coaching, and mentoring teammates.
• Collaborate with other Tech, Team, and Product leads on the product roadmap, acting as a crucial and communicative part of an engaged and upbeat team.
• Help navigate customer experiences with our extraordinary, empathetic support teams, working with diverse people and roles.

What You Bring

• Experience managing a team of people at scale, with expertise in flexible people management, rapid growth, servant leadership, and performance management.
• Experience with remote management, understanding its unique challenges and how to optimize for a distributed environment.
• Experience as an individual contributor in an engineering role, having shipped quality code into delightful applications and understanding how good teams build systems.
• Bonus: Experience in building and shipping AI-based products that operate reliably at enterprise scale.
• Measured and articulate written and spoken communication skills, enabling effective collaboration and concise expression in various forms of correspondence.
• A curiosity about learning new tools, workflows, and philosophies that foster growth, functioning well in an environment that embraces change. This role offers tremendous opportunities for growth!

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary and is currently eligible for Elastic's stock program. Our total rewards package includes a company-matched 401k with dollar-for-dollar matching up to 6% of eligible earnings, alongside a range of other benefits focused on holistic employee well-being.

The typical starting salary range for new hires in this role is $159,800—$252,800 USD. In select locations (including Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, the San Francisco Bay Area CA, and the New York City Metro Area), an alternate range of $191,900—$303,500 USD may apply. Salary placement within the range is based on factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business needs.
