About the Position:
 
Edgewise is seeking a strategic and execution-driven Field Medical Affairs Lead to build, lead, and spearhead our US Field Medical organization for clinical development advancement and medical launch readiness. The National Director role is a field-based, non-promotional medical and scientific leadership role responsible for leading a National Field Medical team comprised of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs). The National Director is responsible for developing the Field Medical strategy for their team, ensuring that it is aligned to the Company’s overarching Medical and Field Medical strategy and is focused on delivering impact and improving patient care. The National Director is accountable for successful execution of their team's Field Medical strategic plan providing inspirational leadership and direction of Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and Health Care Providers (HCPs) engagement tactics that align to business and customer needs.
 
Essential Job Duties and Functions:
  • In partnership with the Clinical and Medical leaderships, develop a Field Medical strategy plan as part of clinical development advancement and launch readiness across the Company’s cardiovascular programs.
  • Define external stakeholder mapping and engagement strategy incorporating cross-functional partnership with relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and translate medical strategies and actionable customer insights into field medical initiative and ensure successful execution of such initiatives by working with relevant cross functional stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with the Head of Field Medical Affairs, define Field Medical impact and analytics needed to ensure maximal performance and impact of the field medical team to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Provide scientific support for advisory boards, including preparation, facilitation, and follow-up.
  • Attend scientific congresses and symposia to gather and disseminate relevant scientific information. Staff medical booth, as needed.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders (e.g., Clinical Development, Regulatory, Commercial, and Pharmacovigilance) to ensure scientific alignment.
  • Disseminate medical insights and competitive intelligence to inform company strategy and development programs.
Required Education, Experience and Skills:
  • Accredited doctorate degree in a life-science or basic-science discipline (Pharm.D., D.Sc., D.N.P., Ph.D., or M.D./D.O.) strongly preferred.  
  • Minimum of 10+ years experience as an MSL or in a field medical/scientific role within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience leading and building teams.
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively lead, direct, coach, manage issues, and resolve conflicts for scientific and medical colleagues at all skill and knowledge levels is essential. Previous Field Medical leadership experience is preferred.
  • Ability to build, scale, and lead high-performing field organizations, including talent strategy, succession planning, and development of managers
  • Prior experience in cardiology or rare diseases, preferably related to HCM and heart failure
  • Strong strategic thinking with ability to translate external insights and scientific data into integrated medical strategies and clear execution priorities.
  • Excellent communication, influence, and presentation skills; ability to represent Field Medical Affairs credibly with senior internal stakeholders and external experts.
  • Proven success managing both internal and external stakeholders in a dynamic, matrixed organization.
  • Recognized as a valued collaborator and contributor within cross-functional teams.
  • Deep scientific knowledge and passion for cardiovascular medicine.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 60–70%overnight stays, as needed. May include international travels.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage time and priorities, lead projects while valuing input from others, and operate with a high level of integrity, professionalism, and initiative.

Salary range: $230,000 - $260,000, title and salary commensurate with experience
