About the Construction Materials Co-Op Role at ECS Group of Companies

The ECS Co-Op Program allows qualified students to reinforce their education through a practical, hands-on, paid work experience. As a Construction Materials Co-Op, you will participate in multiple (2-3) co-op rotations, with current opportunities available for Summer and Fall rotations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Observe and document field activities related to the construction process.
  • Sample, test, and inspect soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt, and structural steel placement.
  • Perform calculations and data reduction of test results along with drafting.
  • Use field screening equipment and document readings.
  • Read maps, follow directions, and interpret engineering and construction plans.
  • Interact and communicate daily with contractors, technicians, and project managers.

For Experienced Co-Ops, additional responsibilities include:

  • Testing of soils, foundations, reinforced and post-tensioned concrete, masonry, structural steel, and asphalt pavement.
  • Determining and/or performing appropriate laboratory tests.
  • Attending project meetings and assisting in project resolutions.
  • Assisting with preparation of proposals.
  • Assisting with scheduling, training, and oversight of Field Technicians.
  • Assisting with managing project budgets and invoicing.

What You'll Need

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree.
  • Interest in how building materials are utilized in the construction process.
  • Must be able to provide suitable transportation for use on job sites - Mileage will be reimbursed.
  • Position requires carrying 40 - 70 lbs multiple times a day or occasionally lifting 85 lbs to waist height.
