About the Role: Postdoctoral Researcher in Applied Linguistics

Applications are now invited for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher in Applied Linguistics at Dublin City University. This is a 29-month fixed-term contract focusing on a critical project aimed at understanding and reversing the decline in Anglophone language-learning.

The project involves a comparative analysis of successful language-learning cultures across Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Ireland. The successful candidate will be based in one of these four jurisdictions, reporting to the respective jurisdictional lead. The role requires engagement across four key Work Packages, fostering partnerships with schools, project collaborators, and various community groups. You will utilize mixed methods to gather and analyze new data, alongside synthesizing existing datasets.

Key Work Packages

  • Work Package 1: Examines existing data and creates new datasets to understand differences in language uptake within Celtic education systems.
  • Work Package 2: Focuses on the application of digital language-learning tools, including the development of innovative new resources.
  • Work Package 3: Investigates the attitudes and experiences of students and newly qualified teachers regarding language learning.
  • Work Package 4: Engages with public stakeholder groups to gather insights on language learning.

Salary and Application Details

The salary for this position is on the IUA Postdoctoral Researcher Salary Scale, ranging from point 1 to point 7 (€46,805 - €54,850). Appointment will be made based on qualifications and experience, aligning with current Government pay policy. The closing date for applications is Monday, 16th of March 2026.
