Position Summary
The DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) is seeking a talented and energetic individual to join the team and facilitate the next chapter of downtown’s evolution in the post-pandemic era. This Planning & Economic Development Associate will work on projects that integrate urban design, policy, and real estate, while leveraging skills in project management, data analysis, and both written and verbal communication.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Research and Data Analysis: Collect and present key real estate market metrics; oversee regular publication of data; manage project-level data; perform demographic analysis and economic modeling; develop GIS mapping infrastructure.
- Strategic Planning: Assist in implementing initiatives from the Downtown Action Plan and related task forces; contribute to business retention and expansion programs; support grant initiatives and new business development efforts.
- Business Retention and Attraction: Engage with existing tenants and businesses; attract new businesses by promoting DowntownDC’s advantages; develop sector-focused marketing collateral.
- Public Realm: Oversee planning programs and initiatives; support activations and physical improvements; occasionally assist in design and construction oversight.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Represent the BID at meetings; provide real estate data and project updates; support stakeholder education on policies and initiatives; manage stakeholder database with occasional data entry.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public policy, real estate, economics, or a related field (Master’s preferred). 1–5 years of relevant professional experience in planning, economic development, public administration, or real estate. Must work in-office four days per week. Experience with government agencies, nonprofits, or public-private partnerships is essential. Technical skills in ArcGIS, PowerPoint, Excel, and familiarity with Salesforce are required.
Compensation & How to Apply
