Role Overview
The Senior Privacy Engineer at Discord is responsible for building and operating systems that manage data rights throughout the data lifecycle. This includes developing scalable tools, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations, and partnering with various teams such as Engineering, Product, Data, and Legal.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain tools for data collection, access, and deletion.
- Own end-to-end software development to support the Privacy Program.
- Collaborate across teams to conduct risk assessments and code reviews.
- Advocate for privacy-preserving solutions and serve as a subject matter expert.
- Lead privacy incident response efforts and mitigate risks.
What You Should Have
- Passion for user privacy and data protection.
- Minimum of 3 years in Privacy or Security engineering or similar roles.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Rust, or Typescript.
- Experience working in cloud-based environments, particularly Google Cloud.
- Knowledge of threat modeling, data lifecycle management, privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA), and data classification.
Bonus Points
- Experience with distributed systems and modern data platform infrastructure.
- Familiarity with integrating internal systems with privacy and risk management platforms.
Location & Compensation
This position requires residency or willingness to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area. The US base salary range is $196,000 to $220,500, plus equity and benefits.
