About the Role
Discord's IT function is at an inflection point, seeking a leader to build an engineering discipline. This role reports to the Head of Security & IT and is responsible for the full IT surface: identity and access, endpoint and device trust, SaaS governance, workplace infrastructure, and internal tooling. The mandate is to transform IT operations from reactive support to a proactive team that writes code, ships automation, and builds platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Build engineering capability, establish infrastructure-as-code practices, and shift the team's focus to platform engineering and automation.
- Own identity and access management end-to-end, advancing Zero Trust strategy and driving the technical roadmap for resource access.
- Drive SaaS governance, including license management, shadow IT discovery, cost optimization, and vendor consolidation.
- Modernize service delivery by integrating AI, building self-service capabilities, and managing to meaningful SLAs for a global workforce.
- Oversee workplace infrastructure, including office networking, AV systems, and endpoint readiness for the San Francisco headquarters and future offices.
- Manage the IT budget like a product organization, prioritizing, making build-vs-buy decisions, and quantifying team value.
- Administer and improve core IT-managed systems such as Okta, Google Workspace, Jamf, Intune, Crowdstrike, 1Password/Kolide, Asana, and Zendesk.
What You Should Have
- 10+ years of progressive IT experience with a strong background in endpoint management, SaaS/identity platform administration, and systems engineering.
- 7+ years of experience building and managing multiple teams, transforming IT organizations at technology companies.
- Proven ability to shift a support-oriented function into a team that ships code, builds platforms, and operates with engineering discipline.
- Technical leadership with hands-on experience in automation, identity architecture design, or internal tooling development.
- Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code principles and credibility with engineering teams.
- Experience owning the IT side of the security boundary, including endpoint management, identity, device trust, and compliance controls.
- Experience managing modern IT platforms at scale, with a focus on integrated systems through automation.
- Experience managing multimillion-dollar budgets and making strategic trade-offs regarding vendor consolidation and cost optimization.
- Proven track record of standing up capabilities from scratch and thriving in ambiguous environments.

Compensation
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $400,000 to $450,000 + equity + benefits. Compensation is determined by role, level, job-related skills, experience, and education.
