About the Finance Director Position
The Finance Director at Disability Rights Wisconsin oversees the organization’s financial operations and fiscal integrity. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will manage budgeting, grant tracking, compliance, and reporting while supervising accounting staff. This role is integral to strategic decision-making and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Budgeting and Financial Planning:
- Lead the development and monitoring of the annual operating budget.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Provide financial analysis and forecasts for decision making.
- Communicate key financial matters to the board and leadership.
Accounting and Compliance:
- Oversee accounts payable, receivable, payroll and general ledger.
- Ensure accurate month-end and year-end closings.
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and funder requirements.
- Support audit preparation and work with external auditors.
Grant and Contract Management:
- Monitor restricted grants and contracts for proper allocation.
- Prepare financial reports for government and private funders.
- Track grant deadlines and deliverables with program staff.
Internal Controls and Process Improvement:
- Implement internal financial controls and procedures.
- Identify and execute process improvements.
- Ensure proper documentation of financial records.
Team Collaboration:
- Supervise finance and accounting staff.
- Provide training on budget management and expense tracking.
- Collaborate with HR on payroll and benefits reconciliation.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred); minimum 4 years of nonprofit financial management; strong understanding of fund accounting, GAAP and grant compliance; proficient with accounting software (QuickBooks, MIP) and Excel; experience in audit preparation and managing multiple funding sources; detail-oriented and strong analytical skills; excellent communication of complex financial information; commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Work Environment & Benefits
This position is based in the Madison or Milwaukee offices with a hybrid option and requires Wisconsin residency.
