About the Role
DIGIC is looking for a skilled and experienced Lighting & Compositing Pipeline TD to bring the stylised fantasy world of the Magic: The Gathering Netflix series to life. The Lighting & Compositing Pipeline TD is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimising the tools and workflows used by the Lighting, Rendering and Compositing teams (LRC). You will act as a bridge between the artistic needs of the department and the technical infrastructure of the studio, ensuring a seamless data flow from upstream departments through to final render and compositing. You will form part of the LRC Department and be involved in all department technical related discussions. The position reports directly to the Head of Lighting, Render and Compositing.
Responsibilities
- Tool Development: Design and implement Python-based tools to automate repetitive tasks to streamline the lighting, rendering and compositing process.
- Pipeline Development: Maintain and evolve the department's pipeline and workflow to integrate with other departments and softwares.
- Workflow Optimisation: Work with supervisors, leads and artists to improve the efficiency of working methods.
- Data Management: Oversee the efficiency of data handovers between other departments and Lighting and Comp. Ensuring data is validated, secure and ingested correctly.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Act as the first line of defence for complex pipeline breaks, tool bugs, or technical bottlenecks. Solve technical issues and assist with errors.
Reporting Lines and Interfaces
- Reports to: Head of Lighting, Render and Compositing
- Works closely with: LRC supervisors, LRC Leads, CG Technology, Department Lead, Production, Render Management
- Interfaces: dProject System Administrators, CG Technology team related to Gaffer, Condor and USD.
Essential skills
- Advanced Python: Strong proficiency in Python 3.x and PySide/PyQt for UI development.
- DCC Architecture: Deep technical understanding of Gaffer (or similar cg software), Nuke and Arnold.
- Compositing Integration: Experience developing Nuke tools and managing the technical handshake between 3D renders and 2D comps.
- Problem Solving: Ability to debug complex, multi-layered pipeline issues under production deadlines.
Desirable skills
- USD & Hydra: Hands-on experience with Universal Scene Description (USD) and look-dev in Gaffer.
- Rendering Tech: Knowledge of OSL (Open Shading Language) or C++ for custom plugin development.
- Environment Management: Familiarity with Git, Docker, or Rez for software environment deployment.
