This company is building durable execution infrastructure, the runtime layer that turns AI agents, workflows, and backend services into processes that survive failure by default. As software gets more agentic, long-running, and integration-heavy, that layer is becoming foundational. This team is one of the few building it from first principles. The founders built and operated some of the most widely adopted open-source data infrastructure in the industry. The product is already running critical workloads in production at Fortune 500 enterprises, including major banks. A recently closed Series A means the team is hiring into real momentum.
Staff Cloud Infrastructure Engineer Responsibilities
You'd be the staff-level owner of cloud infrastructure across every way the product ships: open source, multi-tenant SaaS, on-prem, and BYOC running inside customer cloud accounts. On a team this small, that means genuine design authority over the control plane, networking, storage, and observability — and accountability for how it all behaves in production. This is hands-on infrastructure work with customers depending on it, not runtime-core research or an architecture-and-review seat. You design it, build it, operate it, and carry the pager for it.
The Work
- Build and operate the managed multi-tenant cloud — infrastructure, control plane, networking, storage, and observability for stateful workloads.
- Design and evolve the BYOC product: infrastructure that runs inside customer cloud accounts, operated as a shared responsibility with demanding enterprises.
- Own reliability across the fleet — SLOs, metrics, traces, alerting, runbooks — and build the automation that lets one product scale across every deployment model.
- Work deep in a Rust-based infrastructure layer with Kubernetes operators and infrastructure-as-code tooling (Terraform, Cluster API, Crossplane).
- Join the cloud on-call rotation, where a US-based hire materially improves timezone coverage — your operational judgment directly shapes how the platform is run.
What You Bring
- A strong cloud infrastructure background: you've operated production multi-tenant SaaS or platform infrastructure with stateful Kubernetes workloads, and you have opinions formed from real failure modes — not blog posts.
- Software engineering skills in a systems language (Rust, Go, or C++), with the willingness to learn Rust on the job.
- End-to-end ownership from design through production operations, and comfort with early-stage ambiguity — even at staff level, this is a hands-on seat.
- Based in the US (East Coast a plus) or UK, with eligibility to work there.
