About the role
Mid-Senior Integration Developer - HL7/FHIR (Remote, Latin America)
Our client is a US-based healthcare technology company building a new enterprise platform focused on upstream workflow and revenue cycle challenges for health systems. The product is in stealth, with a working prototype and active conversations underway with prospective customers and investors.
You'll work in the integration layer between the platform and health system EMRs, starting with Epic. The focus is on bidirectional data exchange — pulling data in, running it through the platform's logic, and writing results back to the patient record. You'll work closely with an Epic Architect advising the team, and partner with product and engineering on integration design and delivery.
This is a long-term contract opportunity without an end date. The engagement is fully remote, and the candidate can be located anywhere in Latin America. You'll need to overlap with Eastern Time business hours, and strong English communication skills (B2+ or higher) are required.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain bidirectional integrations between the platform and Epic, with multi-EMR support over time.
- Implement data exchange using FHIR and HL7, ensuring reliability, performance, and compliance with healthcare data standards.
- Translate Epic Architect guidance into working integration components and production-ready code.
- Troubleshoot integration issues across environments and collaborate with health system technical teams during implementations.
- Contribute to integration documentation, monitoring, and operational practices as the platform scales.
Mandatory Requirements
- 3-5 years of professional experience in healthcare integration development.
- Strong, hands-on fluency with FHIR and HL7, including designing and implementing bidirectional data exchange in production environments.
- Exposure to Epic integration work, with a clear understanding of how Epic exchanges data and the constraints involved.
- Solid backend development skills in a modern language (e.g., Python, Node.js, Java, or C#).
- Experience with API design, error handling, and integration monitoring in production environments.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and handling of sensitive healthcare data.
- Strong English communication skills (B2+ or higher) and ability to work effectively in a remote, distributed team.
Nice-to-Have
- Production experience building bidirectional Epic integrations.
- Exposure to other major EMRs such as Cerner and eClinicalWorks.
- Epic certification (any module).
- Cloud experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Background in revenue cycle or clinical workflow integrations.
Of Note
- Completed background checks will be required before the start date if you are selected as a winning candidate.
- As a winning candidate, you will be required to disclose your engagement with DevEngine as a primary client on your professional LinkedIn profile.
