We, the Department of Transport and Planning, are dedicated to creating thriving places and connected communities. We integrate transport, planning, land use, precinct, and policy functions to deliver optimal outcomes for Victorians. Alongside our portfolio agencies, we are responsible for planning, building, operating, and maintaining Victoria’s transport, planning, and land services. We foster a safe, inclusive, and constructive workplace.

The Investment and Technology division leads and manages the investment lifecycle, drives commercial advice & negotiations to facilitate reform, and enables core delivery through Finance, Procurement & Technology.

About The Role

The Test Analyst plays a crucial role in ensuring high-quality software delivery. This involves designing, implementing, and maintaining automated testing frameworks that validate functionality, performance, security, and usability. The Test Analyst is accountable for embedding quality at every stage of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), accelerating delivery through automation, and enabling continuous improvement of engineering practices.

Position Accountabilities

  • Embedding automated validation within CI/CD pipelines to support continuous delivery.
  • Collaborating with developers, DevOps specialists, and product teams to champion a shift-left testing approach, preventing defects and improving delivery speed.
  • Executing functional, regression, performance, and security testing to ensure system stability, compliance, and end-to-end business integrity across interconnected systems and services.
  • Analyzing production issues and testing insights to uplift platform resilience, drive continuous improvement, and support informed release decisions.
  • Providing clear visibility of quality metrics and release readiness to technical and business stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the maturity of testing practices across the organization.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply modern automation engineering practices in a purpose-driven environment, supporting better transport outcomes for Victorian communities.

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing automated testing solutions within complex enterprise or regulated environments (e.g., government or large private sector), with a proven record of improving quality outcomes and delivery velocity (Mandatory).
  • Strong experience in Agile and DevOps delivery models, including active participation in continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, and embedding shift-left quality practices (Mandatory).
  • Hands-on expertise in automation tools and testing frameworks across UI, API, and integration layers, applicable to enterprise platforms such as Pega, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Azure, and AWS (Mandatory).
  • Proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as C#, Python, JavaScript, or PowerShell for test automation development, data manipulation, and tool integration (Mandatory).
  • Experience with non-functional testing, including performance, security, accessibility, and reliability testing, preferably integrated into CI/CD pipelines (Mandatory).
