About This Role
As an Assistant Manager, Sentence Management, you will engage with various stakeholders including prison locations, Forensic Intervention Services, Forensicare, and the Prison Disability Support Initiative. This is an ongoing, full-time opportunity within the VPS 4 salary band, offering $97,955 - $111,142 plus superannuation.
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Assistant Manager to provide a critical role within the Sentence Management Division.
About The Business Unit
Sitting within the Corrections and Justice Services Group, Corrections Victoria (CV) operates Victoria's adult corrections system. CV is responsible for achieving the appropriate balance between a safe, secure, and humane system while providing programs and services that seek to rehabilitate people through addressing the underlying causes of offending behavior.
The Sentence Management Division (SMD) sits within Corrections Victoria and consists of the following units:
- Sentence Management Operations
- Sentence Calculation and Warrant Administration
- Video Conferencing Coordination Unit
- Complex Classification Unit
- Counter Terrorism Coordination
- Office of the Assistant Commissioner
- Maribyrnong Community Residential Facility
- MARAM Framework Implementation
About The Assistant Manager, Sentence Management Role
Sentence Management Operations is responsible for identifying the needs of people in custody and matching them to correctional resources with the objective of placing and managing them appropriately. This process balances security, management, and needs of people in custody, the community's need for protection, and the efficient and effective operation of the correctional system. Sentence Management Operations guides the journey of people during their sentence.
The Assistant Manager, Sentence Management is responsible for vacancy management, placement, and classification of people in custody across both public and private prisons in Victoria.
Some Of Your Duties Will Include
- Interview, assess, and develop sentence plans for people in custody, which include the identification of program needs, determination of security rating, and their prison placement.
- Contribute to the effective management of the Victorian prison system by ensuring prison vacancies are maximised, thus enabling the timely movement of prisoners from police cells into prison custody.
- Review and approve recommendations and decisions of Case Management Review Committees in public and private prisons in accordance with Corrections Victoria policy. This includes guiding and supporting offender management processes across the Victorian correctional system.

About You
To be successful as an Assistant Manager, Sentence Management, you will have:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Corrections Victoria policies, organization, procedures, and relevant legislation and regulations.
- Demonstrated expertise in the placement and classification of individuals in custody across Victoria's public and private prisons.
