Overview

The Government Digital Service (GDS) is the digital centre of government, responsible for setting, leading and delivering the vision for modern digital government. As part of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), GDS employs over 1,000 people across the UK with hubs in Manchester, London and Bristol.

Role Purpose

As the Strategic Communications Lead, you will provide strategic communications advice to senior policy officials and work collaboratively across teams to drive a consistent narrative around digital transformation, AI, and data-driven government initiatives. You will be a key player in planning and executing high quality communications strategies, managing multiple stakeholders and ensuring alignment with government priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic communications advice and develop communications plans.
  • Work with policy colleagues to align on priorities and risk management.
  • Produce and coordinate high-impact accessible content and narratives.
  • Lead management of GDS communications channels including blogs, newsletters, and social media.
  • Manage and develop team performance and objectives.

Person Specification

Candidates must show extensive experience leading communications initiatives, excellent written and verbal skills and the capability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines. Experience with data-driven insights to inform strategic planning is highly desirable.
