About the role
Senior Web and Visual Design Lead
Are you the person who makes “reliable and always available” a reality in your work? At Deer Designer, you'll lead a team of designers, ensure consistent quality across multiple brands, and manage timely delivery without burning out your team. This is a player-coach role where you will direct, review, unblock, and contribute designs when critical.

Responsibilities
1. Creative Leadership and Direction
- Set and maintain creative standards for the team, including layout, typography, motion, brand fit, and polish.
- Translate complex briefs into clear, actionable direction for designers.
- Establish reusable systems such as templates, component libraries, brand kits, and best-practice examples.
2. Quality Control (Without becoming a bottleneck)
- Review work before delivery to catch obvious errors and subtle quality issues.
- Coach designers through feedback to foster continuous quality improvement.
- Define and communicate the standard of “great” for each client and deliverable type.
3. Delivery Management inside the Team
- Triage incoming requests, assessing complexity, urgency, dependencies, and risk.
- Assign work effectively based on designer skill, bandwidth, and client context.
- Expeditiously unblock work by addressing missing assets, unclear scope, conflicting feedback, or shifting priorities.
- Communicate risks early and propose solutions like scope adjustments or phased delivery.
4. Client-Facing Collaboration (Light, but high impact)
- Participate in key client calls such as onboarding, brand alignment, escalations, and reviews.
- Proactively identify and resolve gaps in brand consistency, guidelines, or recurring requests.
- Transform client feedback into system improvements rather than endless revisions.
5. Team Leadership and Coaching
- Lead weekly team syncs to discuss wins, blockers, priorities, and improvements.
- Facilitate feedback loops through 1:1 coaching, skill development plans, and targeted training.
- Maintain team morale and momentum while upholding high standards.
6. Process and Continuous Improvement
- Enhance briefing quality through improved questions, examples, and guardrails.
- Identify and resolve recurring friction points in briefs, QA, or tools.
- Collaborate with production and customer success on workflows, expectations, and escalation paths.

Requirements
Must-haves:
- 5+ years in design, with 1–3+ years leading creatives (agency, subscription, or in-house).
- Technical Fluency: Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Figma, and Canva.
- Strong English communication skills (spoken and written).
- Excellent art direction skills: brand judgment, typography, composition.
- Reviewer Mindset: Provide specific, actionable, and fast feedback.
- Calm Operator Energy: Maintain high quality under pressure and manage multiple brands/projects.
