Job Summary
This position is located in the Case Management Services division of the District of Columbia Department of Corrections. The facilities include the Central Detention Facility (CDF/DC Jail) and Correctional Treatment Facility (CTF). The unit handles intake and classification of inmates and develops a planned program of institutional activities to meet varied inmate needs.
Duties And Responsibilities
The Case Manager is responsible for managing, guiding, and evaluating an assigned caseload. Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct intake interviews and risk/needs assessments with new inmates.
- Obtain pertinent inmate data within 72 hours of admission.
- Reevaluate inmate classifications every 90 days.
- Notify inmates of parole or pre-release program denials with explanations.
- Research appropriate pre-release programs and refer inmates to supportive programs such as stress management and substance use programming.
- Prepare and present reports on inmate behavior and program effectiveness.
- Identify factors in inmates' histories and develop rehabilitation programs accordingly.
- Make annual recommendations for changes to inmate programs.
Qualifications And Education
Candidates must have a degree in behavioral or social science, or a related discipline; or a combination of education and experience that provides similar knowledge. Alternatively, four years of appropriate experience in the field is acceptable. At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level is required.
License and Certification
None required.
Working Conditions/Environment
Work is performed in a Detention Facility office setting. The role is designated as Safety Sensitive and requires compliance with mandatory background checks, drug and alcohol testing, and a TB test prior to duty.
Additional Information
This position is filled at the grade CS-09 or CS-11 level, with potential promotion for CS-09 to CS-11. It is covered under a collective bargaining agreement and designated as Essential.
Tour of Duty
Monday - Friday, 8:15am to 4:45pm.
