The Role: Technical Writer
The Technical Writing & Documentation team at Datadog creates engaging and informative technical content, particularly our public product documentation: Datadog Docs. Our team is hands-on with the technologies that Datadog monitors and collaborates with technical and product teams to create technical documentation for our APIs, SDKs, developer and security tools, and community developed integrations — thousands of pages of content!
What You'll Do
- Partner with our product and engineering teams to manage documentation projects and create public user documentation for observability and automation products used by developers.
- Gather technical details for public documentation by reviewing internal product materials and hands-on testing of products.
- Create developer-facing documentation and guides for Datadog SDKs, APIs, and developer tools to enable the developer community to onboard and succeed with our products.
- Collaborate with the documentation team to help maintain documentation standards and contribute to ongoing process improvements.
- Participate in a business-hours interrupt-handling rotation to respond to documentation questions, requests, and issues as they come up.
- Review and provide editorial feedback on documentation written by others to help maintain quality and consistency.
Who You Are
- You are a technical writer with at least 3 years of relevant experience writing developer documentation.
- You are experienced in using Markdown, a static-site generator, and Github to develop and publish documentation with a ‘Docs as Code’ approach.
- You are comfortable reading and understanding code written in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Ruby, Python).
- You are comfortable and familiar with modern infrastructure concepts such as cloud services and containers.
- You have publicly available technical writing samples.
- You have experience writing documentation for complex platforms with multiple ways for developers to interact with the product (for example, through a user interface, APIs, or automated workflows).
- You have experience using AI tools as part of documentation work.
Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.
