The Staff Applied Scientist Observability Data Platform role at Datadog is focused on powering the core of Datadog’s telemetry systems. What You’ll Do

  • Design intelligent systems for AI-native observability.
  • Prototype cost-aware agent orchestration and adaptive query execution.
  • Apply reinforcement learning and hybrid approaches for infrastructure decision-making.
  • Collaborate with AI researchers and platform engineers on experiment design.
  • Help drive BitsEvolve for optimization and performance improvements.
  • Partner with product teams to translate scientific advances into measurable improvements.

Who You Are

You are an experienced scientist with deep expertise in systems engineering, AI, and formal reasoning. With over 8 years in a production environment and strong programming skills in languages such as C++, Rust, Go, or Python, you tackle challenges in query optimization, reinforcement learning, and distributed systems design. You enjoy designing experiments, collaborating across disciplines, and adapting to ambiguous, high-impact scenarios.
