Job Description

About the Team

The Technical Writing & Documentation team at Datadog creates engaging and informative technical content, primarily our public product documentation: Datadog Docs. Our team is hands-on with the technologies that Datadog monitors and collaborates closely with technical and product teams to create comprehensive technical documentation for our APIs, SDKs, developer and security tools, and community-developed integrations, encompassing thousands of pages of content.

What You’ll Do as a Senior Technical Writer

  • Partner with product and engineering teams to lead documentation projects and create public user documentation for security, observability, and automation products used by developers, SREs, and security engineers.
  • Gather technical details for public documentation by reviewing internal product materials and hands-on testing of products.
  • Create developer-facing documentation and guides for Datadog SDKs, APIs, and developer tools to enable the developer community to onboard and succeed with our products.
  • Collaborate with the documentation team to help maintain documentation standards and contribute to ongoing process improvements.
  • Participate in a business-hours interrupt-handling rotation to respond to documentation questions, requests, and issues as they come up.
  • Review and provide editorial feedback on documentation written by others to help maintain quality and consistency.
  • As a senior team member, you also provide coaching, mentoring, and guidance to others on the team.

Who You Are

  • You are an experienced technical writer with at least 5 years of experience writing technical documentation for developers, SREs, and security engineers.
  • You are experienced in using Markdown, a static-site generator, and GitHub to develop and publish documentation with a ‘Docs as Code’ approach.
  • You are comfortable and familiar with using basic Python and reading at least 1 other programming language (e.g., Java, Ruby).
  • You are comfortable and familiar with modern infrastructure concepts such as cloud services and containers.
  • You have publicly available technical writing samples.
  • You have experience managing large and complex documentation sets and developing well-structured and effective information architecture.
  • You have experience using AI tools as part of documentation work.

Bonus points if you have experience documenting modern security platforms, particularly in areas such as application and API security, cloud workload protection, or application security testing.

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.

Benefits and Growth

  • New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP)
  • Continuous professional development, product training, and career pathing
  • Intradepartmental mentor and buddy program for in-house networking

  • Access to Inclusion Talks, our internal panel discussions
  • Free, global mental health benefits for employees and dependents age 6+
  • Competitive global benefits

Benefits and Growth listed above may vary based on the country of your employment and the nature of your employment with Datadog.

Datadog offers a competitive salary and equity package, and may include variable compensation. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, Datadog offers a wide range of best in class, comprehensive and inclusive employee benefits for this role including healthcare, dental, parental planning, and mental health benefits, a 401(k) plan and match, paid time off, fitness reimbursements, and a discounted employee stock purchase plan.
