About the Role: Open Source Program Developer at Datadog

Datadog is deeply committed to open source, a philosophy that extends from our Agent, tracers, libraries, and SDKs to open standards and collaborative practices. As an integral part of the Open Source Program Office (OSPO), you will be instrumental in developing tools, documentation, and policies that enhance our engineers' engagement with both Datadog's and third-party Open Source projects. You will also represent Datadog within broader Open Source communities.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain tools designed to streamline the creation and release of Open Source software within Datadog.
  • Develop and upkeep tools that facilitate the ingestion and integration of Open Source software into Datadog's ecosystem.
  • Create comprehensive developer-facing documentation and training materials focused on contributing to and maintaining Open Source projects.
  • Engage with Open Source communities to identify emerging problems and market trends.
  • Design tools for automated analysis and reporting on Open Source repository trends and statistics.
  • Liaise with Datadog Open Source Partners to select new projects for the program and ensure its ongoing effectiveness.
  • Research and author content for the Datadog Open Source Hub.
  • Contribute to product improvement through feedback (bugs or enhancement suggestions), documentation, or direct code contributions.

Who You Are

  • You possess approximately 3+ years of experience as a software developer, SRE, or similar practitioner role.
  • You are proficient in reading and writing one or more programming languages, such as Python, JavaScript, Java, Go, C#, or Rust.
  • You are passionate about creating tools that significantly boost engineer productivity.
  • You demonstrate strong empathy, collaboration, and communication skills, essential for building robust relationships across diverse teams.
  • Bonus: You are (or have been) an active contributor to an Open Source community.
  • Bonus: You are knowledgeable about various Open Source licenses and Contributor License Agreements.
