Job Description
Manager, Developer Advocacy
Developer Advocates at Datadog are engineers who share their expertise with practitioners across the community - customers and non-customers alike. As an Engineering Manager on the Advocacy team, you will be a key people and technical leader. You'll manage a small team of Developer Advocates focused on Application Development and Performance, driving value in developer communities while championing modern software development practices.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead a team of Developer Advocates, guiding their work priorities, identifying new career opportunities, and fostering a positive, high-performance culture.
- Contribute to defining the team’s OKRs (objectives and key results) and team strategy, driving the execution of these.
- Ensure your team consistently ships high-quality output, removing technical and procedural roadblocks to help them do their best work.
- Strike a balance between management and hands-on delivery, contributing high-quality technical content (e.g., videos, talks) as needed to support the team, represent Datadog, and stay in touch with the work.
- Work across various internal teams, including Product, Engineering, and Marketing to ensure they are supported across the growing number of Advocacy initiatives and help prioritize requests.
Who You Are:
- You are a former software developer, SRE, or other technical practitioner with strong technical judgment and experience building or maintaining production systems.
- You have 2-5 years experience managing a small team, coaching their performance, guiding their career journey, and breaking down complex projects into achievable plans.
- An experienced and respected developer advocate, skilled at reaching software developers across multiple channels, such as written content, conference talks, leading workshops, live streaming or recording videos, contributing to open source, and participating in community events.
- You are comfortable with at least 2 programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, Node.js, bash) and are familiar with modern infrastructure such as IaaS cloud services and containers.
Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.
Benefits and Growth:
Datadog offers new hire stock equity (RSUs) and an employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), alongside continuous professional development, product training, and career pathing. Employees benefit from an intradepartmental mentor and buddy program for in-house networking, and an inclusive company culture with access to Community Guilds (Datadog employee resource groups) and Inclusion Talks. The company provides free, global mental health benefits for employees and dependents, as well as competitive global benefits that may vary by country and employment nature. Datadog provides a competitive salary and equity package, with potential for variable compensation, and comprehensive benefits including healthcare, dental, parental planning, mental health benefits, a 401(k) plan and match, paid time off, fitness reimbursements, and a discounted employee stock purchase plan.
