Role Description & Responsibilities
The User Assistance Technical Writer Intern will join the SOLIDWORKS User Assistance team, dedicated to designing, developing, and continuously improving user assistance content that is thorough, accurate, engaging, easy-to-find, and relevant. This content ensures users can onboard quickly and do their work effectively. The team documents all SOLIDWORKS-branded CAD and related applications, including SOLIDWORKS Design, DraftSight, and xDesign.
What You Will Do
- Learn core principles and techniques of modern technical writing within a fast-paced, global, best-in-class writing team.
- Master SOLIDWORKS applications and the User Assistance team's content creation and management tools.
- Develop new user assistance content and integrate contributions from others into existing documents.
- Review and enhance existing and new content to improve its quality and impact.
- Contribute to expanding visual content, including images, animations, and videos in our documentation.
- Support team efficiency and productivity initiatives, including the adoption of AI/LLM tools.
- Offer fresh perspectives and innovative ideas for changing content creation and workflow improvement.
Qualifications
- Outstanding written and spoken communication skills, as demonstrated by writing samples and academic performance.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and clearly explain technical subject matter.
- High proficiency and comfort with computers and software.
- Strong motivation to learn the profession of technical writing.
- Fascination with simplifying complex technical material.
- Interest in communicating visually as well as through written content.
- Ability to adapt between supervised learning and autonomous task execution.
- Highly organized with excellent time management, scheduling, and prioritizing skills.
- Above all, a curious mindset.
Preferred Experience (A Plus)
- CAD software experience.
- Programming/scripting (especially web development, XML, or AI/LLM).
- Graphics or video development.
- Hands-on engineering (repair/maintenance, model-making, robotics, electronics, etc.).
This is a paid hybrid internship based at the Dassault Systèmes Waltham office, located at 175 Wyman St.
