Dallas College Facilities Management supports the facility needs for Dallas College, ensuring responsible stewardship and efficient operation of the College's physical assets across approximately 5,000,000 sq. ft. of space and over 1400 acres of land at multiple Dallas County locations.

Position Summary

The Journeyman Electrician plays a crucial role in supporting the Facilities Management Department. This position involves performing advanced skilled craftwork in the electrical trade to maintain, repair, test, troubleshoot, install, and connect power supply at the assigned campus facility.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Knowledge and ability to maintain, repair, test, troubleshoot, install, and connect power supply at the assigned campus facility.
• Knowledge of local electrical codes and best practices.
• Knowledge of safe work practices, ability to work at heights and confined spaces per OSHA regulations, and maintain a safe work environment.
• Ability to maintain a desired level of quality in assigned work, paying attention to every stage of the process.
• Working knowledge of the location of all power sources at the campuses.
• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve electrical issues.
• Ability to identify voltage levels using digital multi-meters.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain productive working relationships and coach/mentor teammates.
• Ability to read and install electrical components from prints, design, and modify existing systems.
• Ability to maintain instrument calibration and data.
• Demonstrated ability to make decisions under pressure of continuing production.
• Ability to use electrical hand tools like power drills, saws, conduit benders, and voltmeters.
• Ability to read and understand plant electrical power distribution online diagrams, make repairs, and understand high voltage systems terminology.
• Ability to utilize computer technology for operating and managing computer-based electrical systems.
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously with high attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) for exceptional customer service.
• Ability to maintain the security and integrity of Dallas College's critical infrastructure.

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, talking, hearing, climbing ladders, using stairs, reaching overhead, crouching, kneeling, or crawling. Involves pushing/pulling 10-50 lbs, lifting 10-80 lbs, carrying 10-50 lbs, repetitive arm/leg use, driving, balancing, and fine motor skills. May involve adverse weather conditions. Requires in-person interaction and coordination with colleagues, students, clients, and partners, with immediate access to College workspace resources. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with physical challenges.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Licensed Journeyman Electrician with five (5) years of related experience.
• Official license/certification will be required.
• Ability to work extended hours, including nights and weekends, beyond the regular 8:00 am to 5:00 pm workday.
• Current and valid Texas driver’s license required for offsite travel.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills are preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensures the highest quality of Electrical work across all Dallas College locations.
• Troubleshoots and resolves Electrical issues at multiple Dallas College locations.
• Installs electrical circuits, lighting, distribution panels, feeder cables, rough-ins, and trim outs.
• Maintains inventory of electrical supplies and prepares requisitions.
• Estimates time and material costs for electrical projects.
• Collaborates with other facilities teammates to ensure exceptional customer service and maintain safe buildings for students, faculty, and staff.
• Assists other facilities management teams as required.
• Follows all safety policies and procedures; reports safety hazards.
• Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains the security and integrity of Dallas College's critical infrastructure.
