Purpose of the Function

The purpose of this function is to serve as a field-based medical expert, building peer-to-peer relationships with Key External Experts (KEEs) to advance scientific understanding and acceptance of Daiichi Sankyo's contributions to medical practice. This role involves executing the regional KEE plan, gathering insights, supporting scientific projects, and providing medical affairs support for clinical trials.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Identifies and maps qualified thought leaders and scientific networks on an international, national, and regional level.
  • Contributes to national and regional KEE plans, ensuring Medical Affairs input.
  • Liaises with external customers to enhance acceptance and advocacy of Daiichi Sankyo's contributions.
  • Builds and maintains peer-to-peer relationships with key influencers at academic institutions, hospitals, and scientific societies.
  • Tailors patient-centric scientific discussions to customer needs, incorporating the latest scientific evidence compliantly.
  • Collects insights from KEEs and brings them into the company via discussions or advisory boards.
  • Supports speakers in preparing and delivering presentations and scientific contributions.
  • Ensures medical value messages are conveyed and advocacy for Daiichi Sankyo contributions is developed.
  • Enhances company reputation through scientific engagement with thought leaders.
  • Advises customers on product use (within and outside approved label) compliantly.
  • Provides answers to unsolicited requests for scientific information in line with medical information rules.
  • Sets up and implements scientific projects such as care-improving projects, medical education, and research programs.
  • Identifies topics of interest within the scientific community and defines medical programs.
  • Collaborates with medical managers to develop content for scientific projects.
  • Conducts programs in line with corporate requirements and ensures scientific content validity.
  • Communicates expert opinion on scientific, medical, and regulatory information.
  • Supports the development and implementation of clinical trials and registries.
  • Provides scientific consulting to clinical trial investigators.
  • Catches proposals for Investigator-Initiated Trials and drives the approval process.
  • Serves as an internal and external Medical Affairs Subject Matter Expert.
  • Provides scientific support to commercial customer-facing functions and conducts internal trainings.
  • Supports Key Account Managers with local market access (e.g., formulary discussions).
  • Provides customized scientific support (presentations, slide-kits) as requested.
  • Continuously engages to improve Daiichi Sankyo capabilities, build scientific knowledge, and gather competitive intelligence.
  • Understands competitor activities, strategies, and programs, and disseminates competitive intelligence.
  • Leverages insights on competitor behavior to anticipate industry trends and opportunities/threats.
  • Takes ownership of maintaining expert understanding of clinical information for Daiichi Sankyo brands, competitors, and therapeutic areas.
  • Supports the affiliate Medical Affairs department in developing Medical Affairs tactics.
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Respects rules governing relationships with Health Care Providers.
  • Acts in compliance with all local laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Declares adverse events or quality complaints immediately to the responsible person for pharmacovigilance.
  • Identifies and reports complaints/safety information to the Pharmacovigilance Department.
  • Performs tasks and takes responsibility as described in the Quality Management System of Daiichi Sankyo Belgium.

Education & Experience

  • Education: A doctoral degree (Ph.D., Pharm.D., M.D., or equivalent) in life sciences.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Medical Science Liaison role (or similar) within the pharmaceutical industry, with a specific focus on cardiovascular medicine.

Skills And Additional Requirements

  • Clinical Expertise: Understanding of cardiovascular diseases, treatments, and emerging therapies. Experience in cardiology clinical practice or research is a significant advantage.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific information clearly and effectively.
  • Networking: Proven ability to establish and maintain relationships with KOLs and healthcare professionals in the cardiovascular field.
  • Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Thorough knowledge of relevant regulations and guidelines governing interactions with healthcare professionals and clinical research.
  • Travel: This is a field-based position. Willingness to travel extensively (mainly in the North-south of Belgium) to engage with KOLs, attend conferences, and support clinical trial sites.
  • Languages: Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in Dutch & French. Fluent Dutch, English and French is a plus.
