Role Overview
Cubic is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of end-to-end systems engineering projects, primarily within the UK Rail fare collection sector, with opportunities to contribute globally. The role involves working in a matrix organisation, supporting Project Managers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Project Managers in planning, coordination, and delivery of complex systems engineering projects.
- Support various project lifecycle methodologies (linear, iterative, hybrid, extended).
- Engage with UK Rail industry customers and internal/external stakeholders.
- Collaborate within a matrix structure across cross-functional teams.
- Assist in technical delivery ensuring systems engineering best practices.
- Support commercial and financial administration including budgets and forecasts.
- Help identify, assess, and manage project risks and issues.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and lessons learned initiatives.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience or strong interest in supporting systems engineering or technology projects.
- Ability to work within a matrix organisation and cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of systems engineering lifecycle methodologies.
- Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Basic understanding of commercial and financial project management.
- Awareness of risk management principles.
- Desirable experience with UK Rail industry customers.
- Willingness to support global projects as required.
Qualifications
Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field. Professional project management qualifications (e.g., APM PFQ/PMQ, PRINCE2 Foundation) are advantageous. Interest in membership of professional bodies like the Association for Project Management is a plus.
