Job Description

About CryoFuture

CryoFuture is a cryogenic specimen storage and logistics company serving reproductive medicine, with facilities in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Atlanta, Chicago, New Jersey and Dallas. We provide 24/7 monitored storage, HIPAA-compliant chain-of-custody, and specimen transportation for IVF clinics, hospital systems, and patients across the United States. Our mission is simple: the material entrusted to us is irreplaceable, and we operate like it.

The Opportunity

Our transportation arm is on track to double in 2027 and become the largest segment of our business. We are building the safest, most operationally disciplined reproductive-tissue cold chain network in the country. We are hiring a VP of Cold Chain Logistics & Transportation to lead that build — reporting directly to the SVP of Operations, owning the end-to-end transportation function, and shaping how specimens move in this industry for the next decade.

What You Will Own

  • End-to-end cold chain transportation across all CryoFuture facilities, including cryogenic and deep-frozen specimen movement.
  • Regulatory compliance posture: IATA PI 650, DOT 49 CFR Part 173, FDA 21 CFR Part 1271 (HCT/P), state tissue-bank licensing requirements, and FAA requirements for air transport.
  • SOP development, protocol rollout across sites, and ongoing audit readiness.
  • Training and continuing-education curriculum for all transportation-adjacent staff, including facility teams, couriers, and dispatch.
  • Fleet strategy — hybrid model of internal medical couriers plus third-party logistics providers; lane-level decisions on insource vs. outsource.
  • Vendor and carrier management (airlines, ground couriers, dry-shipper providers, dataloggers, monitoring platforms).
  • Validation programs for shippers and hardware, including dry vapor shippers, passive shippers, and 24-hour validated containers.
  • Emergency transport protocols and incident response — what happens in the first 72 hours of an excursion, how we communicate with clinics and patients, how we recover.
  • Technology roadmap: TMS platform, IoT monitoring, chain-of-custody software, and near-term automation of coordination workflows.
  • Building your own team as volume grows. Expect 2-4 direct reports within 12 months.
  • P&L accountability for the transportation segment.
  • Inventory management of all transportation equipment
  • Build Strategy for Transportation route optimization

What You Bring

  • 10+ years in cold chain logistics, with 5+ years leading multi-site operations.
  • Hands-on cryogenic / deep-frozen expertise. You have personally signed off on cryogenic shipments. This is not a spreadsheet role.
  • Regulatory fluency. IATA PI 650, DOT 49 CFR 173, 21 CFR 1271, GDP/GMP, and dangerous goods are familiar territory.
  • Aviation-grade / Six Sigma discipline. You apply airline-caliber safety culture to a biological logistics context.
  • Industry pedigree: prior experience at Cryoport, Marken, World Courier, Quick International, Biocair, Thermo Fisher, a tissue or blood bank system, or an equivalent cell & gene therapy or clinical trial cold chain operator.
  • Builder mindset. You've stood up programs, not just maintained them. You've authored SOPs, trained teams, passed audits, and cleaned up incidents.
  • Leadership presence. You can hold your own with facility directors, regulators, hospital procurement teams, and clinicians — often in the same week.
  • Technology literacy. You have selected, implemented, or materially improved a TMS or cold chain monitoring platform.
  • Bias to action. You'd rather ship a working v1 and iterate than write a perfect five-year plan.

Strongly Preferred

  • Direct experience in reproductive tissue, HCT/P, or cell & gene therapy logistics.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.
  • Experience scaling a medical courier or driver fleet.
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, logistics, engineering, or life sciences. MBA a plus.

What This Role Is Not

  • It is not a corporate strategy role. You will be in facilities, on calls with dispatchers, and occasionally on planes next to shippers.
  • It is not an embryology or clinical role. We have clinical leadership already.
  • It is not a legacy role where the playbook exists and you execute. You will write the playbook.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: ($150k to $175k), calibrated to experience and geography.
  • Equity: meaningful equity participation, 4-year vesting with 1-year cliff.
  • Benefits: full medical, dental, vision; 401(k); Carrot Fertility; HSA/FSA; generous PTO.

Key skills/competency

  • Cold Chain Logistics
  • Transportation Management
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • SOP Development
  • Fleet Strategy
  • Vendor Management
  • Validation Programs
  • Incident Response
  • Technology Roadmapping
  • Team Leadership
