Job Description

Job Description: Tax AI Associate at Crowe

The Tax AI Associate role at Crowe is integral to driving the adoption of AI and enabling technologies among over 1,000 tax professionals. This position involves a unique blend of enablement, requirements translation, collaborative building, and rigorous testing. Sitting at the crucial intersection of tax technical expertise and AI/technology execution, you will partner with tax subject matter experts (SMEs) and product/technology teams. Your main goal will be to transform real tax "jobs to be done" into practical, usable tools, standardized repeatable workflows, and scalable training programs.

You will contribute across the entire project lifecycle, from initial discovery and requirements gathering to enablement, co-building, user acceptance testing, and iterative improvement. A strong emphasis will be placed on achieving practical outcomes, ensuring an excellent user experience, and promoting responsible AI usage within controlled enterprise tools.

Skills Required

  • Tax Domain Fluency: Possess a working knowledge of tax concepts, enabling you to engage deeply with tax SMEs to understand workflows, identify pain points, assess risks, and clarify decision points.
  • AI Enablement & Applied GenAI: Proficiently use ChatGPT or equivalent enterprise-grade customizable chat solutions to support knowledge work, accelerate workflows, and ensure responsible usage. You should be able to translate one-off "prompting" into repeatable playbooks, templates, and structured workflows.
  • Requirements & User Story Development: Skilled in eliciting clear requirements, documenting comprehensive user stories, defining precise acceptance criteria, and translating ambiguous needs into actionable delivery artifacts.
  • Training & Facilitation: Capable of leading engaging training sessions, office hours, and enablement programs for diverse audiences, from new hires to senior practitioners, with instruction tailored to varying skill levels.
  • Co-Building & Tool Configuration: Ability to actively assist SMEs in building tools and workflows within structured environments like ChatGPT, Alteryx, or proprietary tools, while strictly adhering to governance, risk, and quality standards.
  • Quality, Testing, and Feedback Systems: Exhibit discipline in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) planning, developing robust test cases, effectively capturing feedback, documenting defects clearly, and managing iterative improvement cycles.
  • Communication & Change Enablement: Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, producing user-facing guidance (e.g., job aids, instructions, FAQs), internal updates, and adoption materials that effectively drive behavior change.

Responsibilities

  • Requirements Gathering & Product Translation: Collaborate with tax SMEs to meticulously map technical tax workflows and pinpoint high-value tasks suitable for AI/technology augmentation. Develop high-quality user stories, comprehensive requirements documentation, and clear acceptance criteria to support product enhancement and tool development. Maintain well-organized backlogs and documentation to facilitate efficient triage, prioritization, and delivery.
  • Enablement & Training Delivery: Design, plan, and lead effective enablement sessions for tax teams and new hires. This includes conducting live trainings, producing recorded content, hosting office hours, and delivering targeted role-based upskkilling. Create engaging training materials and practical exercises that demonstrate how AI concepts translate into tangible daily tax work outcomes.
  • Co-Building with Tax SMEs: Provide hands-on assistance to tax practitioners in developing AI-enabled workflows and tools within controlled technology environments, such as enterprise ChatGPT solutions, Alteryx, and proprietary platforms. Help transition one-off experimentation into standardized assets including templates, playbooks, reusable prompts, and documented procedures.
  • Communications & Thought Leadership: Generate and publish internal communications, user guides, detailed instructions, release notes, and essential change management documentation to foster adoption and consistency across teams. Contribute to practice-facing thought leadership pieces on the practical application of AI in tax, responsible usage guidelines, and emerging AI capabilities.
  • Testing, QA, and Continuous Improvement: Organize and conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) sessions with tax teams, thoroughly documenting outcomes, identified issues, and enhancement opportunities. Accurately log defects and improvement stories with clear reproduction steps and prioritization context. Support broader Quality Assurance (QA) testing efforts and validate fixes/enhancements prior to their wider release.

Stakeholders & Collaboration Model

This role involves active collaboration with a diverse group of stakeholders, including:

  • Tax practitioners and SMEs (acting as end users and workflow owners)
  • Tax leadership and enablement leaders (focused on adoption goals, prioritization, and communications)
  • Technology/product teams (guiding tool roadmaps, backlog execution, and releases)
  • Risk, compliance, and security stakeholders (ensuring responsible use, governance, and approved tooling)

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Tax, Accounting (with a tax focus), or an equivalent tax-related discipline.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the tax domain sufficient to engage in technical workflow discussions and translate work into requirements.
  • Proficiency with ChatGPT or equivalent enterprise-grade customizable AI chat tools, including the ability to produce repeatable workflows and guidance (beyond just ad hoc usage).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, enabling the ability to build credibility with tax professionals and effectively lead group enablement sessions.
  • High organizational discipline, covering thorough documentation, meticulous backlog tracking, consistent follow-through, and clear status communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coding or automation skills (e.g., Python) applied to workflow enablement, document processing, or analytics.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, including exposure to its AI services.
  • Experience with Azure AI Document Intelligence (or similar document extraction/classification tooling).
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, agile delivery practices, and experience in writing user stories / managing backlogs.
  • Experience with tools such as Alteryx (or comparable workflow automation tools).
