Job Description
Head of Talent Operations at Crossover
Hiring doesn't work. Most people recognize that. Very few understand how to repair it. This role exists for someone who does understand.
Although this position is housed within People and Talent Operations, it functions primarily as a systems design and operations role where the domain happens to be hiring. You will not be required to serve as a subject-matter expert in talent acquisition itself. Instead, you must excel at constructing systems that produce measurable outcomes — systems that scale effectively, operate consistently, and hold up when tested by real conditions.
The challenge is straightforward to articulate but demanding to accomplish: architect and run a system that reliably attracts the right candidates, brings them in on schedule, maintains a rigorous quality standard, and places them into positions where they thrive and remain. That system cannot function only for straightforward, clearly scoped requests. It must also handle ambiguous, critical, and non-standard situations. This role demands sustained ownership, sound judgment, and the rigor to resolve issues in ways that reinforce the system instead of introducing additional layers of complexity.
Managing stakeholders is essential. You will collaborate with senior leaders who carry firm viewpoints, conflicting demands, and incomplete information. Formal authority will not be part of your toolkit. Success will come through earning credibility, identifying alignment, and making trade-offs explicit — upholding standards while ensuring people feel understood and equipped.
This is an environment where AI comes first. You will engage with AI tools on a daily basis, leveraging them to produce drafts, validate concepts, evaluate results, probe edge cases, and identify trends. You will not draft proposals for engineers and then step back. You will prototype, experiment, troubleshoot, document, and refine directly, then collaborate with technical partners when something is ready to be scaled or hardened.
We also believe in transparency, because we respect your time. This role will not suit everyone. If any of these statements resonate with you, this is probably not the right match:
- You favor identifying issues over carrying solutions through to completion
- You depend on authority structures, organizational hierarchies, or designated owners to make progress
- You delegate technical work to engineers rather than engaging with it yourself
- You interpret feedback or resistance as criticism rather than actionable input
- You concentrate on refining isolated components without considering broader system impact
- You are drawn to the concept of repairing broken systems more than the execution required to do so
This is a global, fully remote position offering significant autonomy alongside significant accountability. You are required to be online for a minimum of four hours that overlap with U.S. business hours each weekday. Beyond that window, you control your own schedule.
One final note, for the sake of clarity: our hiring process demands genuine effort. Most applicants dedicate substantial time to it, which reflects the nature of the role itself. If everything you've just read energized you rather than discouraged you, we would sincerely like to hear from you.
What You Will Be Doing
- Architecting and refining comprehensive systems that transform vague requirements into consistent, high-caliber results
- Engaging directly with senior stakeholders to define actual constraints, make trade-offs visible, and establish shared definitions of success
- Applying AI tools every day to create, validate, assess, and enhance system elements, then layering in human oversight and quality assurance
- Carrying your work from initial concept all the way through delivery, tracking, and refinement — no partial accountability, no handoffs
- Detecting recurring issues, pinpointing underlying causes, and strengthening the system using data from outcomes and practical usage
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Identifying issues and delegating implementation to others
- Refining a single system component without accounting for its broader consequences
- Depending on formal authority, organizational structures, or escalation pathways to advance your work
- Relying exclusively on specialists rather than engaging directly with the work yourself
- Steering clear of complex challenges, demanding stakeholders, or outcome ownership
