This role seeks a technically sophisticated product leader prepared to shape the future of AI-driven education. 2 Hour Learning needs a technical architect to spearhead the evolution of our AI-powered learning platform. While most organizations add AI to conventional education frameworks as a secondary feature, 2 Hour Learning has taken a fundamentally different approach: we have reconstructed the school experience from its foundation, leveraging AI and learning science to eliminate the limitations inherent in traditional classrooms. Our students don't merely show progress — they excel, earning multiple 4s and 5s on AP exams, demonstrating multi-year academic advancement within a single year, and routinely surpassing their own performance expectations. This is not a conventional product management position centered on customer feedback cycles or gradual feature enhancements. This is an executive-level technical product ownership position, where you will control the architecture, technical direction, and AI integration across our complete learning platform. You will be accountable for navigating the difficult technical tradeoffs that keep our products lean, scalable, and relentlessly oriented toward enhancing student results. You will approach challenges with the mindset of a CTO while executing with the agility of a product entrepreneur, fusing engineering rigor with learning science principles to consistently deliver breakthroughs.

What You Will Be Doing

• Building and demonstrating comprehensive education product expertise to inform strategic choices
• Creating technical specifications that drive critical technical decisions and emphasize simplicity, efficiency, and sustainable architecture
• Deploying generative AI technologies to automate and optimize engineering workflows, supporting the strategic goal of minimizing manual effort

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Pure people management; this position relies primarily on your business insight and technical expertise
• Spending your time in meetings, committees, and administrative overhead; we have streamlined management processes so you can concentrate on delivering business value through direct contribution
• High-level strategies disconnected from implementation; your recommendations must be grounded in product-level understanding

Director Of Product Architecture Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the CTO for one or more education products, owning foundational competencies and generating business value through flawless execution and strategic judgment

Basic Requirements

• Deep experience or interest in data-driven learning science
• 7+ years of experience making the important architecture and design decisions on software projects, such as the application of architecture design patterns or significant open source technologies
• 2+ years of experience making design decisions involving the use of cloud computing services (primarily AWS)
• 4+ years of experience in positions with full technical and delivery ownership on a revenue-generating product
• Experience building product features that make advanced use of Generative AI
• Experience using Generative AI to simplify work processes

Working with us

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $200 USD/hour, which equates to $400,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
